Oral surgery today. Can only eat cold soup. But cold drinks are OK. Prescription pain killers. Shouldn't mix scotch and vicoden? Fuck you.

Tell ya a story:

15 years ago I fell off a cliff in the Queen Charotte Islands. Hurt my back bad. Medi-vaced out. got worse.

I walked bent over with a cane. Viocan for the pain. 6 months.

I was in serious pain every day. When everything I could do didn't work, I had surgery. It worked fine. I realized I was still in a little pain from the where they'd whittled on me. OK. A week after the surgery I ran out of pills. But now I was a little happy about it. I had had to take those pills to survive. Now, the pain was only from the surgery. I could have gotten more pills, but I was happy not to. Being straight felt like being on a whole new drug. One that helped you see clearly. things wern't all fuzzy anymore.

So I quit. And it was no problem at all. I suppose I spent a day or two missing Mr. Vicocidin. But that's all.

Later, I asked my doctor, why, after more than 6 months taking three to four vicoden every day, could I just quit, with no consequences? He said, "This is unscientific, but my experience is that people who take this stuff for recreational purposes, have a hard time quitting, while people who take it for real pain have little problem."

Hmmm. At the time Bret Favre was in spin dry for vicodan addiction. Made me think.

Americans love their Vicodin. I had a wisdom tooth that needed out while I was in the United States and the oral surgeon drugged me up so nicely that I needed somebody to drive me home and don't remember much of the night. The next day I had a 10-day prescription for Vicodin which I had only remotely heard of though everybody around me seemed to think that I was fortunate or something.

One pills = damn. I am somewhat of a lightweight but this strong for a damn tooth?

Yeah, a ten-day prescription.

A few years later I was in Korea and had the same surgery on another tooth though this time it was really impacted and a bit more serious . I think that I received......three or four shots to numb the area and walked home. The doctor gave me a prescription for antibiotics but nothing for pain. When asked he said that he supposed that I could take a tylenol the next day if I had a low tolerance for pain though he didn't generally give out pain medicine for something of that sort.

I remember bringing my wife back to the dentist after a root canal due to all her moaning about the pain all night long. He asked if she needed something stronger to kill the pain. I said, "One of us does."

It seems simple to me: if the pain bothers you, take the pill. If it still bothers you, take another.
The Anti-Drug Hysteria-mongers Lobby have people terrified of addiction. After her surgery last year, I nearly had to get medieval on my wife to make her take an adequate dose to quell her pain.

In 2007, the Washington panel approved a guideline that urged doctors to refer patients on large dosages for evaluation if they were not improving. Two professional groups representing pain specialists had already taken a similar step.

But Washington’s action had an important difference that soon proved contentious: it set a dosage level meant to prompt the referral.

As with most medical guidelines, Washington doctors largely ignored the panel’s suggestions, a later survey found – until last year, when the guidelines became law.

That bill moved so quickly through the Legislature that its opponents were caught off guard.

The maker of OxyContin, Purdue Pharma, tried and failed to stop it. Several national pain experts, including some with ties to the drug industry, also sought to block it, saying the new provisions would cause chaos by restricting patient access to care.

Even some supporters of the new law agreed there was little evidence to support the dosage threshold, which was the amount of any opioid equivalent in strength to a daily dose of 120 milligrams of morphine. Nonetheless, they believed drastic change was needed.

“I thought the new law was a necessary evil,” said one Seattle-area physician, Dr. Charles Chabal.

In the great liberal bastion of NY, I have to contact my doc monthly to send in my Androgel scrip. Allowing automatic refills is verboten.

The only reason I limit alcohol intake with Vicodin is b/c of the high amount of acetominaphen (SP?); very liver toxic. If I want to drink anything more than 1 beer, I make sure I'm taking a more pure opioid.

The mentality in this country is just fucked up. Clearly, something is wrong with the addiction rate. But I'm struggling with a great deal of pain on a daily basis, I'm generally speaking a "responsible citizen", don't miss work, doing my best to maintain a decent training regimen, not beating my wife, etc., etc., and I'm made to feel like a junkie if I ask for any opioid based meds.

anyone who thinks there aren't legions of MDs out there who overprescribe pain medicines and are fueling additction, is a fucking tard. It's absolutely ridiculous the amount of shit docs prescribe here for fucking everything.
And fuck that bill that says we should refer the patients on. The fucking pain docs are the worst pill mill for profit douchecanoes out there.

Johno has it right. If someone really hurts, take the medicine. When they don't need it, fucking stop.

Last year, I nearly had to fist my Doc to get a codeine scrip for a nasty cough. When she relented& wrote the scrip...I picked up my cough syrup, and it was the smallest bottle I've ever seen...about 3 thimblesful.
I don't need a nanny. Fuck the weaklings who need to be protected from themselves.

the issue is perhaps not entirely simple and straightforward. the "weaklings" appear to include the unborn. fuck them?
