I think back to '73 or so when Bowie was the NEXT BIG THING, I didn't try to get him due to a certain amount of macho posturing and homophobia. I think my friends and I dismissed him as a fag. It took me a bout ten years to get into him.
That said the crowd shots in that video demonstrate a rock 'n' roll truth:

The fact that young people today aren't familiar with Bowie's stuff from the seventies is rather sad. This stuff sounds as fresh today as it did when it was first released. Granted I was a one year old when this came out but I was lucky enough to be the youngest by a mile. My brother had a nice record collection. Stuff like Bowie, Cheap Trick, Thin Lizzy, Neil Young, The Cars...I still love that stuff. Viva la vinyl!

I remember my Mom dragging me to a friend of her's house to watch the "Serious Moonlight" tour on HBO in 83 or 84 and being blown away.
The first time I saw him on SNL a few years earlier he creeped me the fuck out! Hey I was like 6 or 7.
After I was playing a couple of years I went through a couple months of "Mick Ronson was badass!" phases.
Still think he was badass. Fucker was the real Ziggy that played guitar.
