There are some hard core kettlekooks there. Beautiful city though.

I'd put some serious consideration into that decision. I spent six years down there and it was scarring.

1. The heat. I'm not fucking kidding, it's the hottest metro area in the country. We used to vacation at my parents in South Florida and it was a relief from the heat, seriously. And I'm talking from May until you're putting up Christmas lights and sweating after Thanksgiving.

2. The geography. It's flatter than Kansas, and the beach pretty much sucks. The nearest interesting outdoors stuff is Hill Country 3 hours away. That said, if you live north of Houston, it is at least somewhat forested.

3. Hurricanes. Hurricanes are prevalent in a lot of the country, but the Houston area had 4 million people evacuating toward mainly two sides of the compass. Rita and Ike sucked cock. Oh, BTW, plan on somewhere around $2500/year in mandatory windstorm insurance. Again, living North of the city or West mitigates this.

4. The cost of living. Housing, gas, and groceries are cheap as shit, especially housing. This is a consideration because it makes it very difficult to leave Houston, once you are fed up with 1., 2., and 3. As an interesting side note, the cheap brick housing and other services are mainly due to immigrant labor but you'll have a street full of Texas Christian conservatives that rail against illegal immigration.

I'd go with Austin, or even Dallas any day of the week.

My 2 cents worth based on the limited amount of time I've spent there: big urban sprawl, traffic can be nasty, but if you live/work in the right area it probably isn't too bad.

It's hot, but you get used to it after a summer. You don't have to shovel heat. I don't have humidity here (not mid west humidity at least) but you're already used to that.

And I'm up here too! I will get a tandem bicycle with a basket on it and we will go for long rides and stop for a picnic! Think of how cool that will be.

If you leave Michigan, some other poor slob will place last in their strongest hands competition.
