Within just three months of training with Micela, Robles had qualified for weightlifting nationals and decided to forfeit her scholarship.
Meanwhile, Robles — whose rigorous training schedule leaves her little time for outside work — struggles to pay for food. It would be hard enough for the average person to live off the $400 a month she receives from U.S.A. Weightlifting, but it’s especially difficult for someone who consumes 3,000 to 4,000 calories a day, a goal she meets through several daily servings of grains, meats and vegetables, along with weekly pizza nights.
She also gets discounted groceries from food banks and donations from her coach, family and friends — or, as Robles says, “prayers and pity.” Robles could save cash by moving into the free dormitories at U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado, but she refuses to leave her coach, Joe Micela, who’s become a father figure to her: Her own father died of a blood vessel disease when she was 17.

That's right! Why go to the Olympics when you can just do a bunch of odd random lifts in a high school gym in Missouri and be considered a world record holder.

Funny how not working doesn't pay very well.

Her looks have less to do with her sponsorship situation than the fact that she's not a medal contender. If she was going to pull off a gold, no one would give a shit that she's a BBW.

Folks have mentioned that she's not very likable in person, and that's an issue

Should I be sad that she could have free room and board in Colorado but chooses to stay in Phoenix with her coach and live on handouts?
Not attractive by current standards and competing in an extremely niche sport while not working (as Pinky said) = no money.
If she lost 125#, got some abzzz and LuluLemons, she could make a killing doing @F certs though.

April is indeed quite the beast. I got involved in a last-man standing frame lift with her and one other guy.
April finally dropped out at IIRC 750.

World Champion/world record holder. If you think All Round is such a punky thing to do, let's see you go try it. You in particular will FAIL!

He did not say punky...but reading between the lines I think he said,
you're a sandbagging toxic smoke stain, a never was or could be, and the best thing I ever heard is that you like falling out of airplanes and the worst thing I heard is that you use a parachute to do so.

LOL
Who said punky? Who says punky?
Why would I take part in a niche sport that few compete in or care about? Oh that's right so I could be a world champ/world record holder while competing in a grade school gym in Missouri.

And you too with your lover EZ will FAIL. You ain't got nuthin', don't know nuthin' and never will be nuthin'. Go lay down, assume the fetal position and strangle yourself.

Nuthin', the the exact amount of credibility you have.
"You'll never be great so don't ever try." That's the cry of someone who is terrified of being outdone. You'd make a hell of coach gramps.

Dropping out of college and turning back your scholarship, not working and refusing free room & board when the USOC offers probably isn't the best strategy to get things lined up to be financially sound.

Why don't you try something easy like All Round? Why? because you know you will FAIL. That's why.

I never said All Reach Around League Lifting was easy. You're the one who called it punky. I'm pretty sure punky means gay and there is absolutely nothing wrong with your love of cock. So just calm down and get back to your lemon party photo shoot. Stay strong or at least don't go dying on me.

Gay? What is your love and affection for BD "coach" mean? Go cuddle with him and sooth your inferior nervous system. Don't fret about me dying. You'll be dead long before you collect any of your RR pittance.
