Going to WKC Worlds at the end of October which corresponds with mine and my wife's anniversary. We are extending the trip into the next week and was curious if you fuckers have recommendations on places to see, eat at, etc. Since we are driving up it doesn't have to be directly in the area.

Thanks.

No idea as I have never been to the area but want to congratulate you for successfully selling this to her.

Play around on Hotwire and Priceline. You might get lucky on a first rate hotel for a great price in a cool area like the Loop or the Miracle Mile. I've done really well in Chicago a few times.

Tons of good restaurants on Rush St.

Hey, I live there. I would take a look at:

Second City's Main Stage Revue. Where Colbert, Tina Fey, Belushi, Murray came out of.
Frontera Grill. Lots of James Beard awards, not acquired taste.

Both need reservations somewhat far in advance.

Stay away from downtown or the public transit system unless you're looking to brush up on your urban combat skills.

I only go there for business trips, but when downtown:

Weber Grill (has huge wood fired weber grills inside)
Bandaras (on Michigan Mile for a small business dinner)
Waffles (Trendy waffle place)
The Good Egg for breakfasts

For places to go - the usual tourist places: Shed Aquarium, Planetarium, Natural History museum...

Buddy Guys Legends for Blues

Get out of there as fast as you can and drive 60 minutes north to Milwaukee.

The Field, if I remember correctly, is only open during normal business hours. If it's on your list, get there when it opens and plan on being there until they kick you out.

Chicago Art Institute is really nice and it's right downtown near everything.

Kuma's Corner for incredible burgers.

Grand Lux Cafe on Ontario for really great eats.

Shedd Aquarium and the Planetarium are a lot of fun.

Stop by my friends Gracie Barra the Loop on Michigan and get a free intro class.

Lots to do and have a really good time.

Indian food on Devon, Korean food on Lawrence, etc. If there's an ethnic food you want to eat, Chicago has a neighborhood for it.

Btw, my experience with hailing cabs in Chicago was that it's very easy. But don't try that on Devon. The cabs are all parked.

ITT: Dunn gets more information than he needs and brings the FSF to a screeching halt.

Public transit isn't bad in a lot of areas-- but Kaz is right that it's best to avoid certain areas at night and others at all times.

Toll roads are a pain in the ass-- but if you're driving to Chicago from directly east you'll be used to them by the time you get there. Traffic will suck at the times you'll expect it to.

Downtown Chicago sucks in general. It is one of the ugliest city's I have ever been to.

I heard it improved markedly since you left.

Nope. Not really. But I hate the feeling of big cities, built up like that. I prefer the style of a San Diego.

If that is true then that might have to happen. I'm a sucker for muscled men that cook.

Ask him to meet you in Boystown then-- he won't go, but you'll find someone to make you happy.
