Was it a seriously ornery camel?

No. The walk was over. I was sitting in a camp chair on the desolate shores of lake Turkana and complimenting the camel drivers on what pussy cats these camels had been this time. They were seriously ornery in 2004 when I did a similar walk. Anyway, this particular camel was lying in back of my chair and, without looking, I patted him on the shoulder. Guess I startled him. He turned, open mouthed, and hit me with his teeth, without actually clamping down. There was some blood, but it was just an abrasion. NO cuts.

I remember reading a longer narrative of the walk some time ago - believe that you were the author, if I am able to find it, but didn't know that you posted here. That would, of course, drag your reputation down in my eyes.

Good walk for a good cause - you deserve a pat on the back.

Thanks Terry. Here's the story you were talking about. This walk was over different country.

I'll post some pix and tell a few stories when I get back. I'm still in Africa but picking up another story. About an enormous lot of artifacts from ... I hesitate to say this here ... Homo erectus.

Are you flying out of Jomo? Spending time in Nairobi? If so, I thought The Tribe was the funkiest hotel in town. And highly recommend the Anghiti restaurant. Killer Indian food. Two locations, the one on Rhapta Rd is better. This is assuming you're going to splurge.

Thanks. Yeah, flying out of NBO. I promised the paleo guy a dinner. This could work great unless he has a fav restaurant.
