I've heard the same as Fat Cat said. Pretty girls... not a bad place. Seems most of the crime is of the regular tourist variety, according to what I saw when I looked around at the the State Department link TOM posted.

There are also some very good boxers to come out of Ghana. Not relevant at all, but whatever.

Hey you won't believe this shit. So I'm walking out of the building where I work today talking on the phone and I had a file folder in my hand and I just completely missed a step...I about did a fucking cartwheel down those steps. That fucking iPhone flew about 15 feet in one direction and that file and papers went in the other. No one saw it though so my coolness is still intact. This doesn't have anything to do with Ghana but it is just a general safety reminder to be careful and pay attention.

All by design, nigga. I have the odd and dubious distinction of working for two, Forbes 400 families (elegant playa be an elegant playa, what can I say?)

Anyway, a driver/bodyguard for one of the sons-in-laws for one of the families was this crazy brotha from Ghana. He was sharp, well-dressed, might have been tough and wanted me IN on a diamond caper in Ghana that he was orchestrating as one of his security guys.

You cannot make this shit up, lie-men. You really can't. Don't get me trippin' down memory lane and tell you about Columbia, Honduras & the tv show 60 Minutes.

It was planned is what I'm saying.

Haven't been there personally, but have sent folks there and knew plenty of others that have been there. No horror stories to report, folks are generally nice, and nice to Americans. Take your anti-malarial meds and all that stuff, but you're a doc so you know that. The State Dept travel sites really are good, follow their advice closely. Also, do lots of googling on "traveling to Ghana". In my African travels, a thorough sampling of message boards gives info that reasonably aligns with eventual experience.

Talk to people who've worked on USAID projects there.

Remember that "camel hump" is a noun not a verb

Thanks all. Got my malarial meds all lined up. Will keep an eye out for the unexpected, and report back when I return.
