Ok, some quick google juicing reveals some truth about this nigger pope business. Yeah, but here's the deal. In Latin "Africa" referred to North Africa--which was an important part of the Roman Empire--subsaharan Africa was known as Aethiopia. There were a couple of Berber popes, but none that were truly "black" in the way that you and I would think of them.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If I remember my history right, in the early Church, the important non-Europeans tended to be ethnically Greek. A pope who was not from the Latin and Greek origin was a huge deal.

But more to my main point-- people who are salivating for a black pope for PC reasons are likely not going to like it if they get one.
