If they were really vampires they wouldn't show up on camera, thus would be unable to have a film career.
My money is on them being Immortals, a la Duncan McLeod (of the Clan McLeod).

This would only keep them from showing up in the viewfinder of cameras with mirror boxes (still film SLRs, etc.) or in the few cameras with semi-translucent mirrors in the image pathway (Canon EOS-1H, IIRC, and the current Sony digital SLT lineup).
