Gang members are among those flocking to save a South Side Chicago hospital that claims it could be forced to close for lack of funds.
Rev. Phillip Cusic, an employee at Roseland Community Hospital, said he met with nearly 20 members of the Black Disciples Monday. The group reached out to Cusic saying they want to help save the hospital because they deserve a chance to be saved and they want their community to be saved.
"It's bad enough we're out here harming each other," said Don Dirk Acklin, co-founder of the Black Disciples. "But then for the hospital to close that can help people that is innocent and being harmed-- that's genocide."

"We use the word gang and we use it in a derogatory fashion," said Black Disciples member Art Stringer. "We're founded on truth and the ability to uplift our community, but if we ain't got the funding to do it then we go to other means to do that, but the objective is still the same."
The Black Disciples seem to have a PR problem.
The gang is considered extremely violent and is known to engage in drug trafficking and distribution, prostitution, theft, robbery, gun trafficking, murder, embezzlement, money laundering, racketeering in addition to other criminal activity, e.g., rape.

My initial reaction was "blah blah blah tax base hospital etc. LOL gangsters." The article claimed there's no other hospital within an 8 mile radius, I call bullshit, and map it.
It turns out that's true.
8 miles in Chicago is fucking far. In a city, having an ER that may be up to 30 minutes away is terrible.
If you don't want Chicago to turn into Detroit, you need to keep basic services available. It may be unprofitable, but deserted neighborhoods are worse.

The great failing of the "black community" is their infinite game of "blame the other". It's always someone else's fault that their neighborhoods have gone to shit, it's always someone else's fault that crime and drugs are rampant wherever they make their nests, it's always someone else's fault that they fail to grasp the most rudimentary concepts as it pertains to acceptable social behavior and the making of good life choices. Now it's someone else's fault that the local hospital has gone to shit, and in the great tradition of Chicago's "community organizers" we have the literal figureheads who are responsible for much of the Chicongo buffoonery and monkeyshines rising to the occasion and utilizing that most cherished of American traditions...the "woe is us" press conference.
You make your bed, and you get to sleep in it. That hospital was doomed by a million different decisions made every minute of every day on the mean streets of Chicago. There's only so much free shit to hand out before the gubmint/corporate teat runs dry, and then all you're left with is a gaggle of confused niglets shaking their nappy heads and wondering what the hell happened. Well, "niggers" happened...yes, "niggers" was the correct answer to that particular interogatory. Only the blacks in this country get to shit where they eat, and then have their white step daddies come along with a big old check to clean up the aftermath and make it all right.
The good news is that none of this matters. Obamacare is only six short months away, and we can all rest at night knowing that these poor, dispossessed, and disenfranchised folk will have free amberlamps rides to "Sister Mary of Mercy" or "Noah Abraham Jewish Research Hospital" or whatever the fuck they've got left up on the north side of town.

I would guess that Chicago, and the State of Illinois, have quite a few hospitals that serve populations with similar demographics. Those hospitals don't seem to be having the same issues. The issue seems to be
long term strategic and fiscal mismanagement. Seems like Quinn has made the effort to fix a bad situation.

Obamacare has already gone into effect for hospitals:
On an ordinary day many small- to mid-size community hospitals struggle to compete, remain independent…or even keep their doors open at all. But as provisions and affects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) continue to roll out, the challenges are increasingly severe.
The closure of three Southern California hospitals may signal a trend in that state, according to the Los Angeles Times. Quoting the Hospital Association of Southern California, “About 40 hospitals in California may close over the next five to 10 years, which would represent nearly 10 percent of the 430 hospitals statewide.” This forecast is “because of the changes brought about by the implementation of Obamacare.”

Oh, it's one of the worst things the federal government has ever done. Going to murder small businesses.
BTW, I'm starting a gang called the White Disciples. We specialize primarily in meth amphetamine production and distribution, illegal gun trading, underground casinos, and low level prostitution. Next year we're branching out into armored car robbery, and possibly a little bit of that white powder action if I can get the muscle to move out the undesirables on the corners.
Our mission statement...we uplift White America by any means necessary.

If you left out armored car robbery, what you'd have is a series of consensual activities that shouldn't be against the law anyway. This is how whitey has traditionally gotten and stayed ahead. I'm all for it.
