Unless you are a criminal or the Government, guns are not prevalent in Mexico. Guns for the average law abiding mexican are heavily regulated.

I've never understood the ignorance surrounding the anti gun crowd. It makes no sense at all. I spent 10 years in law enforcement, delt with a gun carrying public on a regular basis (I live on the VA/WV border, hillbilly country), I have even been shot at, but yet I still am pro gun. Taking guns away from the honest, non criminal part of society only hurts them. The criminals will always be armed, they are the ones to be concerned with. And of all the criminals I encountered with guns, not a fucking one of them had their gun registered to them. Just like drugs and alcohol, our world is flooded with guns, we are a little far gone now to be trying to take them away. Anyone who thinks differently has their head in the sand or up their ass, IMO.

If Australia's gun laws are so clearly beneficial, why did the head of the New South Wales Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, Don Weatherburn say in 2005 that:

The fact is that the introduction of those laws did not result in any acceleration of the downward trend in gun homicide. They may have reduced the risk of mass shootings but we cannot be sure because no one has done the rigorous statistical work required to verify this possibility. It is always unpleasant to acknowledge facts that are inconsistent with your own point of view. But I thought that was what distinguished science from popular prejudice.

BTW, there have been mass murders since the gun ban in Australia. Committed by arson. it's not even entirely clear that the mass murder rate is down, just because none have been done with guns.

Don't worry. Biased reporting eases the pain. Instead of talking about total amounts of money raised, most reports only mention amounts given by the 2 or 3 largest donors.
