Slings, Arrows, and Fortune

The simple sling is often neglected when reviewing the long history of ranged warfare. Scholars typically focus on the simple thrown spear (javelin), atlatl, throwing axe, bow, and crossbow. However, in experienced hands, the sling was arguably the most effective personal projectile weapon until the 15th century, surpassing the accuracy and deadliness of the bow and even of early firearms.

I have a PDF that deals with making and using slings. It does into how easy they are to make, and how fairly rapidly accuracy is developed

Messed with them (slings) years ago but the Wrist Rocket was my main tool of mayhem.

I've killed birds on the launch with it and shot out many car side windows on the move.

Going to make a sling and teach the boys, wrist rockets later, before firearms.

I want a fucking Pilum bad!

The reason homemade sling shots and wrist rockets are better'n slings is because they employ the use of RUBBER BANDS!!

I don't know about that Andy. A good slinger can hit harder than a wrist rocket. I saw a guy go through and split a 2 x 4 with a lead shot from a sling.

Once I heard a biker talk about how the IRA had a history of killing and maiming Brits with a wrist rocket, I was on that shit. I became proficient quicker with a wrist rocket so I never got real good with a sling.

Step dad used to bring home aviation ball bearings from the AFB he worked at. Those and glass marbles were my favorite ammo. (Well flinging G.I. Joes was kind fun!)

You have to expose yourself more with a sling than with a wrist rocket, therefore that's an advantage for vandalism, shooting furry and feathered critters or if you were going to us it on people.

My late father in law nailed some crackhead sculking in his back yard with a wrist rocket. Guy screamed "You fucking shot me!" because he thought he got shot with a pistol.

Dicks! Now I have to go out and get one. I'm jonesing now!

Well little David killed the big guy with a sling but he practiced a lot. Bet he coulda done it with a homemade sling shot if they had strong rubbber bands back then!!
