In 2013, Lance Armstrong confessed that he had cheated to win the Tour de France. The moment marked the breathtaking fall of an athlete who had transformed himself from a brash and undisciplined teenage triathlete to a global sporting icon. In their forthcoming book, "Wheelmen: Lance Armstrong, the Tour de France and the Greatest Sports Conspiracy Ever," Wall Street Journal reporters Reed Albergotti and Vanessa O'Connell give an inside account of Armstrong's career, from his enormous commercial and competitive success to his take-no-prisoners approach to protecting a devastating secret. The book arose from more than 100 interviews with former teammates, federal investigators and antidoping officials. Some of these figures spoke on background, asking not to be quoted so they could speak freely.

Yep.
If a person tries to argue with this, they are wrong.

AKA as cunts who will hide behind their anonymity while they pile on shit.
People just love to shit on him, people with no where near the talent, drive, hard work, trials ect of the man.
He doped in about the dirtiest sport this side of Professional Bodybuilding, there is no one clean in the pro bike circuit.

We don't agree about much but this is safe. Therefore, it must be fact.
When did people have to be perfect? I can't stand this "build a guy up" then, when you find a skeleton in their closet "tear them down". Jefferson fucked a slave. Kennedy fucked everything that walked. BD fucked EZ. Does that lessen the the positive things that they have done? Should it?
Lance sounded like he was an asshole and dick throughout most of his career and I liked him because of it. The brash, outspoken Texan winning in France year after year after year - that's a nice story.
I liked Lance throughout his career because he was an asshole. He was brash, outspoken and worked his ass off. Was he a dick? Absolutely. Was he great? Indisputably.
I wish that public figures wouldn't cower and try to apologize. Somebody like Tiger Woods or Anthony Weiner should grow a full beard, move to Vegas and be seen with a new porn star each day. Perhaps Arnold will pull this off when he realizes it would be good for his career.
The only thing that I hold against Lance is appearing on Oprah.

Idiot.
Landis and Hamilton have the disadvantage of having been caught first and there being some small possibility they could come back from it. Thus their "Oh No I din't" Two Step feels more egregious. Landis is and always was as much of a freakish talent as LA in many respects. His solo break and eventual tour win will rank forever as one of the greatest performances in cycling.

I never followed the LA story in detail, just the headlines. Issues of PED usage -right or wrong?- aside, there is one part that always struck me as just plain wrong, if I understand it correctly. Please correct me if I'm mistaken:
OK, I get that LA denied usage and called his accusers liars. I get all that. But did he also, using the great resources available to him, commence law suits against his accusers and make their lives miserable / cause them serious financial harm, to further advance his position of denial ?

Correct. He went all out to threaten ruination and actually ruin. His former masseuse, Emily O'Reilly, suffered at his hands. Nasty, nasty shit. And Lemond - a TRUE fucking warrior whi did it before EPO an has greater natural talent than Armstrong (bigger lung capacity for a start and he came back after a hunting accident and won again). He also went vicious on Frankie Andreu's wife, Betsy. And on David Walsh, the Sunday Times journalist.
I admire the athletic accomplishments of Lance as someone who grew up watching Indurain, LeMond, Millar etc. Fucking animal on a bike. Single-minded and stone-cold. But as a human being, he's pretty fucked up and threw everyone under the bus to keep his own wealth intact. He's a top level international class cuntoid. Not the greatest cyclist ever. Don't say that cause it's not true.

No argument on the LA facts. Of course, I have issues with companies that financially supported legal and PR attacks and then dropped LA when the winds changes.
I have also never believed that Lemond was clean, even when he was riding. Oh, Floyd is dirty but not Lance...ok, Lance is dirty but not Greg. Wool meet eyes.

There was fuck all available to take in Lemond's day other than caffeine an amphetamines and frankly, whilst he may or may not have taken them, my view is that you could not turn a carthorse into a racehorse with that weak shit. He won with a level or almost level playing field.

Blood doping has been around since at least the 1970s and EPO was used in the mid-80s, wasn't it?
In either event LA won with a level or almost level playing field as well.
