With almost 6 years under my belt, nicotine free, I thought a little pinch wouldn't hurt while up snowshoeing last weekend. That turned into a week of finishing my can of General Snus.

Now I'm on day two back without and it fucking sucks.

If you ever quit, don't try again. Fuck this shit.

Curt Schilling had been dip free for a solid stretch (can't remember how long), got a little buzz going and was fully hooked again.

I struggled a little to quit, but after the first couple days, it was more about a habit and less about the nicotine fix. I think it took two false starts in about 3 months or so til I was done.

You might want to consider Bacc Off.

It took me 4 years to quit dipping and one of the major contributing factors was realizing there was no such thing as just one pinch. I would have one pinch thinking I would be right back on the wagon after it was done, or maybe finish the can. A month later and I would still be dipping.

I remember from one of my behavior change classes that a lot of relapses happen when the individual is feeling really good, usually celebrating something or vacation of something along those lines.

Truth.

I've had two bouts as a dipper. One in college, when I quit without intending to. All of a sudden, I was sick as a dog and tossed the can without picking it up for another 5 or 6 years.

Second was a little over a year ago, and only lasted maybe 7 or so months, but I was plowing through a can every day or two. Decided I'd rather avoid the list of health problems and worked towards quitting with the above mentioned couple of false starts. Going on 4 or so months with no real cravings.

I should note that I have addiction on my mom and dad's side, but the people who had problems were seriously broken. Like they would have made most of the clown posse around here look stable.

Nicotine sucks. I started dipping in 7th grade. Dipped until my first daughter was born, I was 25 then. Stumbled a few times for a month here and there. Tried patches, gum, lozenges etc. have been hooked on lozenges for years now. It sucks.

I smoked for 30 years.

I quit about 6 years ago. I still crave a cigarette every day. So everyday I have to decide to stay quit.

It sucks.

As someone who quit smoking about 12 years ago, the feeling of wanting one does continue to dissipate.

I'll let you know if it ever goes completely away (since I still want one sometimes when I'm buzzed, overly stressed or eating spicy stuffs)

Started using swedish snus/dip 30 years ago 8when I was 14).Did have a break for 3 years,but then it got real stressful at work and I starte again.Now I can`t really see a reason why I should stop.Like it to much.Just about to take one right now with a cup o coffee.

snus is a touch different in the way it's cured, or something to that effect. I remember reading that while users may be at a higher risk of cancer compared to those who don't use it, it's dramatically lower than snuff and other common types of chewing tobacco.

A pack of Marlboro Reds (box)
A liter of Evan Williams
A big ass rock glass
A Zippo, plenty of ice and two cans of coke

No cigs/nicotine since 2002, about 72 hours shy of one year without alcohol and the above is my 6PM-midnight 'monkey on/off the back' test fantasy. It's hardly killing me to abstain and dreaming about it on occasion is easier and smarter than trying to 'nut-up' and practice moderation. YMMV & TETO.

If you hit that with regularity, bravo. Anyone who can get through a liter of booze w/ a pack of smokes (Reds, no less) more than once in a blue moon is resistant to dying, IMO.

8 years smoke free and damn if I don't get that urge and twinge every now and again, especially when the bourbon is poured

I use General snus, or Grovsnus when I can get it. Smoked two packs a day for 12 years and switched to the snus. It keeps me from killing people. But I would like to quit.

As long as people are mentioning snus (with is swedish and I live in Sweden and am a user of snus) I will remain.

General snus is pretty well available, at least in big cities. You won't find it at the gas station or a 7/11, but specialty shops tend to carry it. There's also buysnus.com.

Marlboro and Camel also both make snus, which is dreadful.

They sell General at the gas station by my house, and Jakobsson's at the smoke shop in Moon.

Beats the hell out of ordering it from the northerner.

What do you pay for a can? I pay between 5.50 to 7 dollars(in swedish kronor) depending on which shop I go to
