Back in the day, many a poser got beat down for wearing unearned Ranger apparel.

I'll never understand why someone would claim to be something they are not.

Daddy and mommy didn't love them enough. They didn't become a rock star like MTV told them would. They tried and failed at everything they ever steered their undisciplined mind towards.
Instead of going out and doing something, it's easier to play pretend.

I liked this part: Phony Ranger says, "I mean, if it's going to start an argument…(I'll remove my Ranger Tab)." That's not very Rangerrific.
About that time, even a peaceful Ranger (like me), would explode, saying, "Motherfucker, I froze my balls off in Swamp Phase to earn this tab, while Ring-Knocking Bitches were trying to Peer my ass out! Go suck a C5 full of Jihadi Dicks!!!"
****
I thought the real Ranger showed admirable restraint.

They want R E S P E C T
It's amazing what people will do for little trinkets of metal or tabs of cloth.
I had a Chief (E7) in my command, and I got a call from his civilian employer, who was asking about some details of his SEAL service for his retirement. The Chief was an Avionics Tech. But that wasn't enough in talking to his civilian cohorts, I guess.

Best part was how the poor EOD/Airborne/Ranger-wannabe wandered over to the crowd that was yelling to leave the poor dear alone. I guess in that case an argument was OK. I'll bet he's an astronaut next.

There is a follow up where he makes a lame apology.
http://www.news10.net/story/news/local/ ... m/6683771/
MODESTO, Calif. – Joseph Scott said he never intended harm to anyone or disrespect to the military - he was trying to do just the opposite.
"I was just supporting my cousins and my family in the military. And to those who I upset and made mad, I do apologize," Scott said from outside his grandfather's Modesto home.
Two weeks ago, Scott, 22, was confronted by veterans on the Delta College campus for wearing an Airborne Rangers uniform. Scott never served in the military. The confrontation with campus veterans escalated, and eventually led to the arrest of one man by Delta College police officers for disturbing the peace and making threats.
Police later received threats from anonymous callers. Many from outraged vets who insisted Scott had broken the law and should have been the one arrested. Delta College police said Scott was within the law.
"[U.S. Attorney General's office] states, there is no enforceable action we could have taken against [Scott] without violating his constitutional rights," Delta College police officer Jim Bock explained.
"I want to apologize to the Delta police officers for the threats they've been getting," Scott said.
Scott said he has wanted to join the U.S. Army for a long time, but failed his Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test. He took special education classes and never graduated from high school.
Scott's grandfather Joe Scott said his grandson suffered a serious event at age three that left him with post traumatic stress disorder.
"He tried to pass ASVAB test entry exam at age 17 and he has failed and he has studied, and I mean studied diligently," Joe Scott said.
At Delta College, his grandfather said Joseph Scott met a recruiter who gave him fresh hope.
"The recruiter talked to him and befriended him and gave him certain information he needed to be able to purchase a uniform and told him he'd help him to get into the service," Joe Scott said.
Joseph Scott was turned down again, but began wearing the uniform he had bought.
When he was confronted, Joseph Scott said he was caught off-guard.
"The guys who did confront me, I don't believe they really did it in a manner that they should have if they were true soldiers and true veterans," Joseph Scott said. "I just really wish that they would have, you know, talked to me instead of judge me the way they did. But I do apologize for whoever I hurt."
There is another wish Joseph Scott has still not let go of.
"I'd serve today," he said. "One phone call and I'd be gone."
I'm calling bullshit on this but my real question is how did this re-tard get into college?

No two sides here, unless you mean on one side people thought he was a soldier wearing unauthorized awards versus the other side where he's a civilian impersonating a soldier. Contrary to the expert legal opinion of the Delta College po-lease, that is illegal. Violating his civil rights...where do they come up with this stupidity.

Yeah...umm...that's fucked up. I'm sure there are two sides, and the other one is some asshat with self esteem issues made a really bad call.

The phony Ranger is pathetic.
The best part of the video is when the real Ranger tells him to take off his tab, he does, saying, "Well, if it's going to start an argument…."
Nobody who earned a tab would bitch out like that.

I think that was evident even before a word was spoken. Just the way he carried himself, the lack of bearing, over all demeanor. Ranger School is probably the most misunderstood training program in existence, having nothing to do with the knuckle dragging, dagger in the teeth, special operations bad ass media persona it seems to have acquired over the years. There is something about having had your dick put that deep in the dirt, at least once in your life, that changes you, though. I think everybody should have it done to them at least once in their life in some way. I'd love to just be able to get across to my staff the fundamental tenets of Ranger School-1) it doesn't matter whose fault you think it is, you're in charge, therefore you're responsible (and it's kin, you can delegate authority but never responsibility), 2) plans are stupid but planning is very important and 3) everybody is hurting in some way, but you're the leader, act it, get the job done now and take up the issues in the debrief.

If you could get out of HS with 1/10th of that understanding...well...then you'd really have something.

Trooper Tirey, with all the schools and Selections he went through, Jump School, French Commando school, SFAS and a bunch of other stuff said that he was the most proud of his Ranger tab.
He had a guy in his unit SF and Ranger qualified who was seconded to the SEAls in Coronado.
They were after him to give Hell Week a go, so he relented to shut them up and to see for himself.
Jim asked him how it compared to Ranger school?
Told Jim "At least they fed you and let you get some sleep during Hell Week, I wasn’t feeding imaginary quarters to trees in hopes I'd get a candy bar."
My little one was in the store and a soldier was in his uniform with the tab for both the school on his left shoulder and the 75th on his right, my boy pointed and said "Hi Marine!" the soldier looked and smiled and I said " No son, that's a Ranger and a man who has fought for you."
The Ranger tosseld my boy's hair "Thanks man, teaching him right. See you in about 10 years little buddy."

Fuck that kid, many of us tried and were told no, he just has to eat it and move on.
No one says he cant learn skills and be ready for what might be coming down the pike, he can wear all the BDU shit he wants, as long as it is not in full uniform with tabs and shit people earn and die with.
Not unless he's under 12 and playing Army.

Yeah, well, I wouldn't be expecting much. I get near fresh out engineers with a masters degree in who cares what, from I couldn't give a fuck U, who couldn't design a popsicle stick, but who expect 6 figures and believe that being a salaried employee only means they get to leave for an appt any time they please....damn I'm getting old.

How does the saying go? There were only 500 SEALS that served in Vietnam, and I've met all 20,000 of them.

Most people who haven't served wouldn't know a Ranger tab from the Lone Ranger's mask but wannabees seem to adorn themselves with everything they can find. I'm surprised he didn't have jump wings, an Airborne tab and CIB.

The best is when they blend shit, like the SF flash, a SEAL trident, the Globe and Anchor.
Like Eddie Murphy in Trading Places.

A few years ago my neighbor brought back some US Navy Seals, Coronado, California tshirts with a mini Trident on the chest and a big one on the back. Gave one to my son. He really liked it. I was appalled.
I took the shirt back to my neighbor's house, and he was a good guy. I explained to him the Trident and Ranger tab were two things you just didn't wear without earning them. He asked me why i didn't think the same about Aviator wings. Just not the same thing. Maybe because it is a much more individualistic effort, and not so much about your teammates. Dunno.
Just don't do it.

Heh
My dad (retired chief) pulls into the driveway, and he's got the front license plate with the Navy wings on them. He was an AK. Asks me if I don't think it looks cool.
"uh, dad..."

My son picked up some do-rags for my birthday. One of them had the Globe and Anchor and USMC on it. I told him I was sorry but I couldn't wear it and he just didn't understand. I tried to explain that I was Air Force and then Army Nat'l Guard (weird, right?) and had no right to another service's "colors", that it wasn't just a rivalry but a matter of respect. I finally had to ask if he'd wear another fraternity's letters before the lights went on. He was having a slow day.
