By the way, some of the totally coolest stuff ever is the series of Russian missions to Venus. Landers and atmospheric floaters and all kinds of crazy stuff.

You sure that was real and not CGI? I guess it was real, but for a few minutes there I thought it was a CGI prank.

I know you are just rubbing in the fact that Russia doesn't even have its own launch facility anymore...
On the upside, though, this is the kind of outstanding results Russia's Protons are getting these days out of Baikonur:

I will say this:
Russia was willing to expend the blood and treasure to get the first ballistic missile launched, and the first satellite, first mammal, first man, and first woman (*all* of them from Baikonur, I believe...) into orbit, but while some of the 'unverified' stories of them sacrificing cosmonauts are pretty awful,
