This is of the same sort as Seeahill ranting about someone using "your" when they meant "you're". Trivial in the instance but disturbing in the aggregate.
It's a fascinating glimpse into the sneaky ways evolution has come up with that allow different animals to avoid becoming someone else's lunch. The cardinalfish probably became translucent to avoid being seen by its predators. But it's a double-edged sword: the ostracods evolved their light show because it renders the cardinalfish's main defense completely useless.
A cardinalfish did not
become translucent to defend against predators. This of course would make evolution out to be some conscious process with intent.
Neither did the ostracods evolve luminescence
because of the fish's mistaken eating habits.
On the other hand, they're gif is cool

We hear the word 'design' used all the time to describe emergent functions in evolved species. It's not really appropriate.
It's hard to get away from the teleological mindset.

Their is probably some odd metamathematical proof somewhere that says the process that creates something has to be at least as complex as the thing it makes, I.e., evolution is as"intelligent" as we are.

Co-evolution. Elephants get big. A tree makes a big colorful fruit. Elephants eat the fruit, carry it to another place and plant in a nice pile of dung. The elephants get stuff to eat. The trees get someone to scatter the seeds.
This did not happen in 15 minutes.

I think it took 6 days, followed by a day of blue laws.

I don't know ... electricity and magnetism and digital logic leads to machine language programming which leads to high level programming and networks which leads to a worldwide internet of computers and devices, satellites and cell towers and fiber optics and etc., and all that leads to lot of people across all civilization sharing pictures of Sharpies in their poopers.

I don't care why she decided to evolve the way she did. I'm just happy she did.

I don't know why you guys have to make it all so mysterious. I made all the animals. I used some spare parts of others. Is that so hard to comprehend?...Jeez!!

What does this have to do with Bucket's thread? And what does it mean?

Means you passed your prostate check? I just liked the way it sounded.
I think "became" is OK in Bux's evolutionary example paragraph.
