Just one man's journey...

IGx is known for its foulmouthed ignorance, but also known for those who can think, and the nuggets born of such thinking.
I am interested in your well thought input to this topic.
There are some among us who probably have a lot of experience around this issue. Some even formal qualifications and professions involved in it.
This kind of flows on from that 'Universe 25' thread that Smet posted, with populations "going on strike" from traditional roles...
I was recently having a coffee with a mate, sharing with him where I'm at in life at the moment, how I'm living it, where its heading etc. How I am in my early forties, happily single*, fit, healthy, building my business, expanding my world, capitalising on opportunities etc etc... Great and full social life in all aspects, but also happy in the solitude of my own valuable company.
Without going into the dirt of my past/present story (for brevity, not due to any shame), I am really happy and things are getting better every day. As I was sharing this, my mate said something along the lines of "That's great so are you going to settle down in the area and have a family?"
My response was, hell no!
He laughed and said, "Oh, you are a MGTOW"...
I'd never heard of this term and after googling around I can see why he would say that. MGTOW means 'men going their own way', and is a movement similar to "tune in, turn on and drop out". But where the focus is men's rights and anti-women.
They say MGTOW men have 'won' the game of life... But to me taking your bat and ball and going home is not winning the game. Winning the game is to engage, but in a manner where you come out on top.
This MGTOW movement seems limiting in that it comes from a level of consciousness of blaming others to make the self right etc, and withdrawing from life... Instead of evolving the self so as to transcend the issues that caused the original problem.
Anyhow I fit the profile, but hold similar views about the freedom of 'me' but without all the hate. Rather i'm getting on and engaging with life at an even deeper level, but from a place of being my own man.
Is this MGTOW thing well know in the U.S? Thoughts?
Not looking for guidance, at all, just a dialogue.
If you are looking for something to get your thinking going listen to these...

I know not of MGTOW. I do know that you are the you of your early forties which is not the same as the past you of your early thirties and is probably quite different from the future you in your early fifties.
Will you eventually "settle down and have a family"? Maybe - maybe not. Either course is fraught with opportunity and misery and your timeline is yours and not that of the MGTOW labelers.
I fucking hate labelers (unless I'm doing the labeling).

Not familiar but the men's rights movement is generally a gang of crybabies who can't get it done. MGTOW looks like a lot of guys who have come to a position out of frustration and are pretending like it's a choice.
Nothing wrong with having your position of not wanting a family, but Internet-based communities like this are almost always a bad idea.

There's a line, a clear demarcation between 'mgtow' and you, Terra. Lack of sour grapes and female companionship being the most visible.
Mgtow is really just failure to thrive for many.

Why do so many of them wear fedoras or trilbys?

Yeah...there are plenty of people who choose, for whatever reason, not to marry, have kids, whatever. You can do that AND care for and respect people of the opposite gender.

MGTOWs sound like a bigger, angry, pathetic lot, and just as beta as the men "Sandman" derides in the video for marrying.
You don't come across like that at all.
I'm 44 and not married, but almost certainly will get engaged in the next few months. I can honestly say that my life is the best it's ever been. In that sense I can identify with you and your description of where you're at in life. But listening to that manifesto, I don't consider for a moment that I could be a MGTOW.

That manifesto is the saddest most disgusting thing I've listened to in a long while.
And who gives a shit who is or isn't getting married and/or having kids? People need to mind their own fucking business.

Holy shit. I got through 3:00 of that MGTOW video before I got so disgusted I had to turn it off. How about not being such a little bitch?

Just to reiterate, I wasn't posting this because of a personal identity problem. More so because, as an Aussie, we get a lot of second hand U.S. 'culture' by default (afro-american gangster rap, the war on umm everything, etc...).
Although the issues raised in the girl's videos are thought provoking, the mgtow bullshit doesn't make sense. I wanted to see if it was even a thing in the U.S. and to see if you blokes viewed it in the same manner as I...
You do.
Yes, I already know mgtow does not describe me, but thanks for the vote of confidence.

One of my lifelong friends - never married, no kids - has fallen down the MRA rabbit hole and from what I see of it, seems to spend his social media time arguing with feminists in comments threads.
It's kind of sad.

I think my sole data point for red pill claptrap was @'s infatuation with the "no more mister nice guy" site...It wasn't very flattering.

I'm not sure his definition of family is quite what we're after.

Buddy of mine...married once, makes a great living, spends money on his hobbies, guns, motorcycles, dogs, and assembling one of the best museum type collections in the country. Goes through women like a hot knife through butter, simply will not compromise his lifestyle.
Lonely? Nope. Unfufilled? nope. Overall very happy guy, fund raising to get a world class museum of natural history in the Phoenix area
