Okay physics nerds, break some shit down for me...

Okay so I'm standing next to a hole at the north pole that runs completely through the center of the earth with the other end opening at the south pole. I step through the hole. What the fuck happens next? Am I accelerating at the typical rate and then decelerating at an equal rate once I pass the center of the earth and I just step out of the hole at the south pole? Am I still upside down?

You die from hitting the sides of the tunnel about 500 times on the way down, and then your corpse is incinerated by Earth's molten core.

It's not a hole that runs through the earf, it just looks like one. Why are you visiting Craig's mom anyway?

You would accelerate @ 9.8m/s/s for an instant, but the rate of acceleration would decrease as you fell due to some of the earth's mass now being above and beside you rather than all beneath you. You would accelerate up to terminal velocity, at which point you would continue to fall toward the center at a constant speed. Once you reached the center you would begin to decelerate (actually accelerate in the opposite direction) until you came to a stop.

Since the friction of air moving against your body would have removed some energy from your "fall", you would come to a stop some distance from the South Pole. At which point you would begin to fall back toward the center of the earth.

You would bounce back and forth, going a little less distance toward the surface each time until you came to rest suspended in the center of the earth's mass.

Careful Shape - you don't know what might be waiting for you down there.

Ah ha! AEN provides a twist to the story that I had not anticipated. All you other smartasses...I'm coming after you. You'll be introduced to "no-lube Sunday."

ALF is absolutely right. I read an article when I was a little kid, by Isaac Asimov or somebody, that said the same thing. You can't get more scientifical than that.

You fall until you reach the home of the Morlocks. You don't want to camp there.

Global falling has a 96% scientific consensus

So the cool thing is, at the center of the Earth you'd be weightless, same as if in orbit.

Even cooler is, if the earth was hollow, once inside you'd be weightless.

Physics for the win, MF
