The wife and I are planning on a trip up your way...couple of days in Great Falls then we want to spend four or five days in Glacier National Park or thereabouts. Where would you suggest staying? Any cool B & B's, hotels/motels etc.? Anything we should make a point to see?

Shape, that's 5-7 hours from me. I don't know the area that well. I can ask around if you like. But, Jeepers buddy, if you don't stop by and see me I'll just pout for a really long time. I have room for several. And if you like fire, there's always the cabin. Message me if you want to stop by.

St. Mary's Lodge is a nice place, for sure. Right at the east entrance to the park. I worked in St Mary's, MT for a summer sometime last century, and then my son worked two summers there a few years back.

But if you can get into the the lodge at Many Glacier, that's the home run.

I like the east side better than the west. The plains next to the mountains is pretty neat. It abuts an Indian reservation, so if your wife has red hair, make her wear a scarf.

Don't worry about red hair. A few native Americans around here have red hair and they all claim. proudly, that they have it because one their ancestors knew William Clark, of Lewis and Clark fame. Red hair is sorta cool on the Rez.

And Nafod is right about the East side being the place you want to be. The west, on the rainy side, is dense with trees. I find it claustrophobic. That's why I live on the east side of the Rockies. I like to see vast distances. Easier for me to know where I am. And the places where the prairie meets the mountains is the place where you will find the most critters.

There's a place not far from me --- I mean a 10 minute drive --- where an archeologist pal has documented 9000 years of human habitation. Why? It's in the mountain, over looking the prairie. You could get buffalo, antelope and up top moose and bear. Plus you had the military advantage of high ground.

Tim, Nafod thanks for the information.

Tim, dang you can't invite a couple of strangers to your place like that...we could be crazy maniacs or something. Greatly appreciate it broheim. The couple of days in Great Falls is my attempt to see if my memories of my youth there are still accurate.
