had no idea they even made 29" bmx bikes. That Framed one is the only thing that comes up in the price range via the googles.

If you're looking for a mtn bike, I think you can get a Salsa El Mariachi SS for about a grand or you could look @ Kona or On One, which is having a pretty big sale on fames right now.

You riding on the street or trails?

For that price, buy better quality used rather than POS new.

For $300, go for second hand 26" MTB and convert to single speed.
You could also build up a rocket ship "26inch BMX" using mountainbike leftovers found on EBay. Now that 26" MTBs are less fashionable there are bargains everywhere, but it would probably still be more than $300 to build a good one.

So probably best to buy 2nd hand and convert.
If you are a heavy guy aim for a 'dirtjumper' frame. If you are a lightweight, lean more towards the MTB racing end of the spectrum.
Probably best to pick up a good hardtail that is 5 years old but hardly used, convert it to single speed. An adjustable (offset) bottom bracket will allow you to tension the chain even if rear wheel is mounted using MTB (vertical) dropouts.

Good luck.

You can pick up a sweet Swiss bar or Football bar for that price, shipped.

These will serve you much better in life as an adult male than a bicycle.
