That was a good article. Evidence-based thinking.
Pepper spray works about 90 percent of the time.

“The answer to most social violence is: Check your ego,” he told me. Give up your valuables. Don’t kill to save your car, and don’t die to save your wallet. Don’t play “the monkey game,” an escalating display of dominance, often but not always between two drunk men.
This is extremist??

I've only watched one or two of the guy's videos. I don't disagree with much of his tactical analysis and he does a service in showing the reality of armed conflict.
But it grates on me to get lectured on this subject, especially with cutesy-talk, by a fat slob who has apparently never been there or done that.

PS - I don't know where nafod's pepper spray statistic comes from, but it's not what I've seen on the street, as administered by cops.

It's a direct quote from the article. It's the guy's conclusion from watching his videos.

Yeah, makes sense that cops would encounter a higher number of difficult situations, that need more weaponry, than random civilians would.

This is my problem too. Same with any self-defense instructor- many of which have never even seen a real fight between grown men. Watching videos does not capture the violence of intent and execution that can occur in real life.

I'm reminded of what Jocko said when someone told him he should get Grossman (author of "On Killing") on his podcast. Jocko replied [paraphrased] "I prefer guests with combat experience."

Thanks. I had scanned right by that one-liner.

From personal observation, nothing is fail-safe or foolproof. I've seen OC fail, and I've seen OC blow back and blind the cop who sprayed it. You can watch a few episodes of Cops and see OC inadequacies.

And I've seen failures to stop with firearms also. That's why it doesn't surprise me to read of multiple hits by multiple cops that fail to instantly stop the subject.
