Finally got around to seeing this.
Disappointing on several levels. Not a bad movie, but not what it could have been.

I have heard from several sources that the ending feels like it was added on with a staple gun.

I've considered renting it but the dog died in the book. I can take all of humanity turning into ravening vampires but a dead pooch is too much for me.

Ditto. Also, it has Will Smith in it.

The dog does die, and it's gut wrenching. But the dog saves him and it's a great scene.
Smith offered to buy the dog he liked it so much. Owner said nope.
You speak truth here, Jack.
1st half rocked fo' shizzle.

When the dog dies the movie goes to shit. The cartoon shorts on the DVD were pretty cool.

I thought I was going to have to remove my wife from the theatre when the dog died.

Watched it last night. Meh.
First half with Smith and the dog, excellent as stated above. Then the wheels came off.
SPOILER SPACE
WHAT THE FUCK? So the crazed psycho super-guys suddenly became capable of rigging a boobytrap? that's just stupid. And why don't these rabid monsters ever eat each other? If they're so completely wild and psycho you'd think that they'd all kill each other off in a day or so.
And making them CGI just made them look fake and somehow made the threat very unreal. Mega-lame.
Anyone know why Smith didn't just put his dog in a cage and dose her up with some more of Batch Six instead of strangling her to death? It worked on rats...
The ending is closer to "The Omega Man" than to either the book or the Vincent Price version, so I can deal with that. Bah. Wasted opportunity all around.
