Two I've read recently. I just finished the Vachss novel last night.
Andrew Vachss - Another Life, the last Burke novel
You should read Vachss. No way around it. That's all. Dark. Unrelenting. I did find some of the social commentary a big distracting at times, but this isn't always the case with Vachss. There are 18 Burke novels in all.
Joe R. Lansdale - Leather Maiden
Another one that can't be missed. Lansdale is a storyteller with very few peers. He keeps getting better. An Iraqi war vet, and a previous Pulitzer Prize nominee comes home. He takes over a position at the local paper and gets caught up in his predecessor's investigation of a story in between getting fucked up and stalking his ex-girlfriend.
