The Stick

I've been using one of these for about a week now. http://thestick.com/. It's great for rolling and trigger point. It takes some getting used to to figure out the right pressure and how to hit all the points you want to hit, but it's very effective. For example, you can bend one side off the wall for leverage and roll out your traps or lats. Using it with the Davies Trigger Point book is very effective. I find it much better than foam rolling because you can really ramp up the pressure and be much more precise in finding problem areas.

I use the stick more as a warm-up for more intense trigger point work. This is what I use when I'm feeling masochistic to really break-up trigger points: http://www.backexpertsstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=159.

Does that work better than a standard cane?

I don't have the standard cane, but what I can say is that the shape allows for a unique leverage that offers some very intense pressure for posterior chain trigger points. For the ITB's, it's fine. For the front side, I tend to use one of those little 'super bounce' balls that are very hard....but a golf ball would work, too.

A friend of mine has one of these, Better Back Buddies. It is very cool.
