Posting this for Shapecharge fellow sniper extraordinaire.

Story about the battle of wits between a Russian sniper and a Nazi sniper during WWII.

Excellent thriller with a lot of soldiers on both sides shot in the head.

Really excellent version of one aspect of the battle for Stalingrad.

Favorite scene is where they send the partially armed Russian conscripts right down the throat of the Germans into certain death. If they didn't go forward, your Russian masters behind you killed them. Talk about a no win situation. That part is true according to stories I've read.

If i recall that scene, didn't they not have enough rifles for everyone, so they gave half of them rifles, and the other half bullets. Then instructed the ones with ammo to pick up the rifles after the original owner was shot and then use the bullets.

Yes. The sniper/hero was only given bullets. When he finally gets a rifle, showed he was a crack shot. It goes from there.

This was a good movie. Stalingrad was good, too.

What stories?
The whole film is a rare shit. Mix of fantasy and pulp fiction. Its shit from begining to end :)

"If they didn't go forward, your Russian masters behind you killed them." Its a myth :)

You think American (or German - they are the good guys of the film as i undertemd) solgiers are heroes, but Russians could attack only by such methods as above?

Bill, war is hell-- I don't think anyone here is serious about defending the Nazis. And the 'Yalta Betrayal' was not something the US should ever be proud of. However, the evidence of Stalin's brutality toward his own troops and people seems to be pretty overwhelming. Is there something I am missing?

This film for example :)
I read a lot of memoirs. Veterans was asked about this - all veterans said that "If they didn't go forward, your Russian masters behind you killed them." its a myth. There very many veterans was asked. No one of them evere saw evil NKVDists with machine guns behind attackers.
And some of them said, would they seen such nkvdist with machine gun, they would easily kill him - its easier than attack.

When were those memoirs written before censorship was lifted or after?

Reconcile that statement with the fact that it is an American movie about the heroism of Soviet soldiers.

Its not the fact.
I mean its the fact that this is American film, but the second part of the sentence is not the fact.

You dumb fucking Bolshevik pig; communism's, and specifically Stalin's, crimes against humanity are well documented not just by western sources, but by your own countrymen and government records.

I just wonder what horrible "crimes against humanity" would commit BatBoy, if he would have a possibility :) say he would have a gun, but some poor communist near him have not!

The hero of the movie wasn't a Soviet soldier?

Soviet. But the film has a lot of episodes wich show that soviet's soldiers not so good and natzi's not so bad. This film so full of lies, that it could be made by Gebels himself.

I didn't like the film, and I really don't care what you think, but you have clearly just admitted that the film was about the heroism of a soviet solder. Now let me ask you a question: how many Soviet or Russian films are about the heroism of an American soldier?
