The wife had a coupon for this stuff a few years back and picked some up. It's not really a foam or a gel. I put too much on the first time and tried to get it to foam up but it doesn't. It goes on like thin layer of sunscreen.
Best shaves I've ever had.
Apparently they only make it for Target stores now. If you live near one it's worth a couple of bucks to try it out.

What kind of razor do you use? Serious question.

Gillette Sensor Excel. I'm not a razor snob, and I like using just the double blades.
Some of you old timers might remember that SNL did a fake commercial back in the Belushi days about a THREE bladed razor.
Now what are they up to...seven?

Yeah, I think they're up to 7 now.
My beard is sparse, but scraggly. I'll look for this and see if I can get a better shave with the disposable double blades I use.

Spending $3/blade or more is stupid. I'll keep spending 0.17 cents/blade (and they as long as my Mach3's did), thanks.
I like this for shave cream:

What was the preferred lube of choice while underway submariner?

2190 TEP, of course.
Back then I used the expensive blades, so generally I shaved with some Edge product. I got smarter though.

Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender or Sandalwood Shave Soap & my Merkur. Both last forever.

Dunn, which Merkur do you have? Which would you recommend?

Bought a Merkur a while back based on your rec as I recall. I fuckin hate it.

That classic shave stuff sucks balls, for me anyway.

Damn. I am sorry to hear that Sandman. It is the only kind of shaving that does not irritate my skin and cause in grown hairs.

Seriously, the straight razor, the classic safety razor shave stuff all sucks serious fucking dick.
Since I shave 90% of my skull, I've got a few tips:
From Sandman himself: Use baking soda and water to soften the hair on the face and scalp. You have to rinse this thoroughly.
Using a brush and a bar of Dove soap (or any other soap with moisturizers in it, a castile soap like Kirkland won't work as well, nor will Ivory, etc...a moisturizing bar).
or
Nivea Sensitive shaving cream. I've tried damn near every shaving cream, from $12 bottles down to $2 barbasol in the can, the Nivea is the best I've used.
For traveling, as long as you shave everyday, the Shave Secret oil from Wal Mart works great.
I use the Xtreme-3 disposable from Schick, because the blades conform the the curvature of the head better than any other. I also use that "Instructibles" technique of stropping the razor on a pair of jeans to maintain the blade sharpness...this at least triples the useful life of the blade. I've used 1 razor for 2 months with 3-4x weekly shaving of the head and face using this tactic.

Plus, for fuck's sake, who want to devote themselves to a 30 minute ritualistic bloodletting every morning. More if you hit the skull, too.

The general pain in the ass that is shaving is why I grow a beard and a sad head of hair several times throughout the year. I'm just too damn lazy to groom myself regularly.

I've evolved to just using Bic single blade disposables and whatever bar of soap is in my wife's soapdish or at the hotel. The key is softening up the hairs with washing the face. After that, you can just use water to lubricate, but soap shows where I've already shaved.

30 minutes? Shaf, you must have a huge noggin' to have enough beard area to take 30 minutes to mow by DE. Takes me less than 10 after I shower.

You have obviously not been on a submarine. There's no room for two people in the shower. The only things more coffin-like are the racks.
