I don't go out of my way to watch MMA movies; in fact, I almost avoid them. But Warrior is good.
It has a good plot, although an unlikely one. But it has interesting character development and good acting. Nick Nolte is very good and the other actors are competent enough to keep up with him.

The MMA action was much better than most fight films I've seen, including The Fighter.
And there was no looking-down-its-nose at MMA.

I've heard lots of good reviews on this flick. I need to check it out.

Second the review. Well done for the type of flick it's supposed to be. definitely better than other attempts at the same thing.

Very good film with great individual performances. Ultimately, it was flawed, and I think they struggled to end it in a credible way. It was their intention to make you not want to see either brother lose, but you couldn't help but pull for the guy fighting for his home as they made the Tommy character into too much of a mad dog asshole.

Nolte was fucking incredible...he deserves his Oscar nomination. One of the better dramas I've seen in a while.

Can't muster up the desire to see it since personally I can see no scenario where I would fight my own fucking brother for cash. I'm an only...no brother/sister so having one would be particularly cool to me. Of course I can see brothers fighting but not in this context.

They made the brother/brother fight make sense.
IMO, the unlikely part was that two brothers, each an MMA no-name, would gain entry to a 16 man international MMA tournament. But movies aren't made based on the ordinary. (Some found it unlikely that Luke & Princess Leia were brother & sister, but the movie still did OK at the box office.)

I'd kick my brothers ass for 50 bucks.

Make sense how? They go to an island where a criminal mastermind, who runs a martial arts school and has a badass hand, has the tournament?

Spoiler alert:

The referee letting the fight continue when one guy has obvious broken arm is unrealistic too

Hell I forgot about that. Yeah, that was slightly less stupid than Red Belt where they had guys fighting with one arm tied down.

I saw Warrior just before the Tate - Ronda Rousey fight, couldn't help but keep thinking about those arms...

There really was not much back story on the brothers, or Nolte. We don't know much about why they were as good as they were.
