Pinky's thoughts

Post by Pinky »

I will open my wallet again when I'm convinced that we have an administrator who can behave himself. I'm certainly not giving money to someone who recently moved threads into a superfluous forum in order to impress one or two other members, at least not without strings attached.

If our contributions could be put into a fund that paid Mario only if he resisted the urge to fuck with the forum, I would donate now. (Something like StickK.com might work for this.) Otherwise, I'll donate again only after a year of good behavior from Mario or a change in administration.

Pinky's opinion of the fund.

Post by Dux »

I can't believe you seriously think that I moved those threads in a permanent way. It was meant as a joke, even the forum description was exactly copy paste from the "make a forum request" .

Lastly, I spend several hundred $ out of my own money in addition to everyone's contribution every year to maintain this place for close to five years now, not to mention my own personal time on a weekly basis.

I move this to its own thread, regardless I respect your decision.

pinky is doing research on the manipulation of behavior of non-profit organizations by withholding donations.

Pinky c'mon brother, Mario is as solid a dude as you can find and he is a busy mofo in his personal life and still takes care of this place and does a great job. He was just playing around having some fun. You've got this wrong.

I like the running gag where he deleted all the threads Jeek participated in, and wouldn't respond to requests for an explanation. That shit is hilarious.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

I only deleted Jack's posts as he received IRL threats, not entire threads.

I thought it was just a jest, nothing more. I laughed about it and I even carry the kettlevirus.

Except for the occasional attack or tech glitch, IGx has been pretty smooth this year and I will contribute.

TROY, you've got to be shitting me, you're going to bring that shit up like Mario fucked up? There's not one dork on here, me included, that hasn't said shit that they might regret if the wrong person were to read it. There's nothing wrong with removing posts if asked. Why is your heart and Pinky's so full of hate for our Greek administrator? There's got to be something sexual that's got you two all twisted up. Whatever it is seek help now.

I respect Pinky for speaking up and taking a stand about something that bothers him. If this bothers him that much, so be it. Any kind of censorship is serious business.

But, the Kettlejest wasn't censorship. And, right or wrong, the Jeek statute of limitations must have expired by now.

If you're not broke as a joke or super pissed off about something, if you stay, you should pay.....at least something.

I know it was a joke, but that's irrelevant. The admin's job is to prevent people from fucking with the forum. Normally, you do a good job of that, but occasionally you decide it's OK for you to fuck with the forum. That's where you go wrong, and this is not the first time.
Lastly, I spend several hundred $ out of my own money in addition to everyone's contribution every year to maintain this place for close to five years now, not to mention my own personal time on a weekly basis.
This is much appreciated. Frankly, we ought to be collecting more money for you so that you don't have to dip into your own pocket when emergencies arise.

But, as I've said before, you should also do less. You shouldn't use your abilities as an administrator to show how funny you are, and you shouldn't cave into pressure to otherwise reorganize the forums. People should only remember that you're the administrator when you need more money, or when Andy forgets his password.

That reminds me. I forgot my password for Pappy. Will you send it to me Mario? Private email. Don't post it on the forum.

The subject of the thread is related to the admin's past behavior and how that may stymie donations. I've long since let this go, but Pink raises an important point.
There's not one dork on here, me included, that hasn't said shit that they might regret if the wrong person were to read it. There's nothing wrong with removing posts if asked.
Yes there is, because Internet is full of drama queens who want to take their ball and go home, and permitting that fucks things up for others. Having admin'd forums, it was pretty common for somebody who did something to embarrass themselves to say, "My girlfriend found my posts here, please delete all of them!" even though that made zero sense, since the horse was already out of the barn. You turn these requests down, because it fucks up thread continuity. If there was a privacy concern, you might delete specific posts on a case-by-case basis, but you don't wipe everything out. It's basic administration.

Similarly, Jeek's request made no sense. If he were threatened, it's hard to imagine a threat where removing all his posts would somehow correct the situation. OTOH, Jeek had a lot of meltdowns and reacted in ways he probably regretted later, and would like to erase that history if he could. That doesn't mean he can blow out all the TF posts he had that may have had some value (Sarno, Gold Medal Mental Workout, etc.), unless the admin is a weenie.

As Pink said, administration is not the place to show off how clever you are. It's supposed to be relatively invisible by following some relatively simple best practices.

That said, Mario seems all right apart from this one issue.

This is why I spoke up. If there were more widespread problems, I wouldn't have bothered to chime in. I would have quietly donated nothing, which is what I do for every other forum on the Internet.

Pinky + TROY = the guy who breaks out a calculator to divy up the check when eight people go out. "Let's see, my tab was 12.37 plus 12.5 percent tip...I would have given 15 percent but there wasn't enough ice in my drink...okay my share is 13.92. Does anyone have change for a nickel?"

I dig you guys but holy shit, I'd hate to see what the fuck you two would do when things got real serious.

If this were about saving nickels, I would have quietly donated less and not risked looking like more of an asshole than usual.

pinky also appears to be conducting a research project to determine whether being a demanding customer ultimately results in receiving better service.

I think Pinky should give a nickel for every time he's bitched about Mario this year. That should take care of our bills for a couple of years at least.

He should also write a paper about what the relationship between his complaining and IGx annual revenue would be and show what kind of distribution it follows.

I've already established that simply being demanding results in being ignored. Now I'm trying to attach incentives to the demands.
