Been listening to The Mix Up by the Beastie Boys for background music lately.

I work at home and work and play muted music in the background.

Since I work with words, the music must not have lyrics. I have a few favorites. Bach's double violin concerto in D minor. Miles Davis, Sketches of Spain. I've recently found dark ambience stuff that works.

Any ideas?

Archangelo Corelli, Pietro Locatelli and Francesco Geminiani are good for nice wall paper. They use a lot of "formulas" that are really attractive but they're not "Hey, listen here". Some of Vivaldi's concerto grossi and opera are good too. Handel is spooky, some of his stuff is boring, other pieces are amazing. Scarlatti's keyboard works are good, the kid, not the old man. Listening to Handel is like listening to older Scarlatti.

Purpora's operas are good. Anything written for the Dresden Court except for Zelenka tends to be wall paper music.

Jan Dismas Zelenka is good but he's bouncy.

I cannot work and listen to Bach when I do serious work. I save Bach for boring and repetitive shit like filling out reports. Eating Lunch. The man has this talent for burying the most interesting details into a line. Bach's music isn't like a needy child. Bach's music is like a brilliant hot looking woman. You will not ignore or deny her.

Other times I listen to Death Metal. Morbid Angel has some decent technical skills if you can ignore the satanic crap. 90s grunge and so on.

Don't know how someone can listen to Miles Davis and think deeply.
