This defeats almost every purpose of doing the overhead squat in the first place...Joe wrote:Dangerous to be under all that PVC and not being locked out correctly. Now look. I've eaten a pice of pie.
When we spin the pie again, the area cut out of the volume of the sphere equals fitness.

I get that couch gave his only begotten son and all that, buy besides the free walking on water seminars, what has couch given anyone for free? fucking bafflingI couldn't agree more with Lisbeth and Josh, people need to grab their boot straps and step up. Coach has given us everything we need to succeed and for next to nothing.
Lets get this done people, or we risk losing everything we have worked so hard for.

Cult, I could easily rub one out to that chick. That hungry Polish peasant look, complete with hip bones, serratus, and hard nips, get me every time.
Three cheers for Androgen Friday!

Holy almond counter Batman!
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. - Helen Keller

Regardless, that's not a bad idea for a theme day. Maybe POD and BOTO could do the legwork on that one.T200 wrote:Who the hell can't deadlift 145lbs?CultBuster wrote: Only thing easier than "andro friday" would be "dudes who can't deadlift their bodyweight monday"

The chicks in RQ's sig look less masculine than some of these girls.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Re: The couch thread
So, yesterday I went and visited the affiliate who bought that t-shirt off of me. I still think he's a nice guy, but he has a ways to go. His gym has been open for a few months he says, with the average class having 7-9 trainees. The three classes I was around for had 0, 2, and 1 trainees. It was a backsquat day, so I didn't see any exercises bastardized for numerous reps at high speed, but the coaching could definitely be improved. The "low-bar" style was immediately put out there as the style to do; high bar wasn't even considered. There wasn't much lumbar slouching, but the depth was 1-2" shy of "below parallel" for just about every rep with all three lifters. Had they hit full depth, you probably would have seen it. After the squats, he had them do foam rolling then some basic floor gymnastics work (handstands, kips, rolls). I was impressed by that stuff. His coaching was good and he had the right matting to do it on. I doubt he'll be able to do it though when his classes consistently push 20+ people.
During the class where no one showed, we talked for a good while, eventually getting on the topic of "the slop." His explanation sort of helped, but it was just lipservice. It boiled down to:
1. Slop is not encouraged, there's just an acknowledgment that it's going to happen.
2. The 20% slop is supposed to be taken with regard to things affecting ROM or efficiency, not safety. For example, if you're doing push-ups and a few don't go chest-to-ground and come up a little bit shy, you're not going to be docked the reps. If five in a row don't make the depth, then that's bad.
3. Slop isn't accepted at all where it affects safety.
The problem with the above points is that they're either conflicting or simply untrue.
1. Acknowledging the slop is giving it your approval. You might not be telling them to do it, but you're saying it's acceptable. Anything aside from discouraging poor technique is negligent.
2. For the most part, anything that brings down efficiency also brings down safety. For example, it's harder to do a front squat with a slouched back and hyperextended wrists than it is with a good, tight, upright back and the bar resting on the deltoids. Not only is the first one harder, but it's more dangerous too. In fact, you could probably argue that a properly performed rep poses no significant threat of injury, unless done to volume extremes that could cause tendinitis or rhabdomyolysis. I can understand accepting some variance in the ROM of things like push-ups, pull-ups, etc. but not any other "slop."
3. We all know that's bullshit.
All the talk of slop actually made me tempted to try a Fran. So, as the third class wrapped up, I warmed up and went for it. My warm-up was my typical one-arm overhead barbell stuff (TGU, OHS, Windmills, etc.), and went for it. The last time I had done thrusters was last August (where I did a 66-rep, rather than 90-rep, version in about 3:30, with good technique). My technique yesterday was shit. Clusterfuck is right. After 11 reps, I called it quits, since it wasn't worth fucking myself up like that just to see if I could. The only feedback he had to give while I was going was to make sure I hit full lockout. My elbows were fully extended, but I might not have been getting my head through (can't remember). Not a word about the rounded back, bar slamming the chest, etc. Not a word.
Anyway, I hope he does well and improves as time goes by. The world doesn't need another shitty affiliate.
I saw a FOX news report about two weeks ago about Michelle Obama's arms. Apparently, she's inspired many women across the country to begin exercising in order to obtain that wonderful physique.

Wait, so is this what you guys call Nicole having gone too far? In my opinion, any further would be a bad thing, but that's just fine right there. I absolutely hate seeing women who have either blobs of jelly or twigs for arms.Resident Quack wrote:

Who the fuck cares about a woman's arms? Tits & ass is what matters.
Next we'll start throwing tea parties around here.
