Gant's mah hero.
Can you believe he works out in Rip's gym? Lucky guy.

How come Gant's not posting here? I know he reads IGx. Is he so afraid of losing his posting rights on CF?

Typical @F circle jerk time! Pony up a grand to take part! The CrossFit Football Certification puts several of the top coaches in the CrossFit community in the same room, at the same time, to teach others how to customize CrossFit workouts for athletes that depend on their strength, power and speed.
So let me get this straight...by what he's saying, @F mainpage therefore sucks at improving speed/sprinting, explosive power, agility, and strength. Got it! Thanks for the clarification! The CrossFit Football certification takes CrossFit to the next level by teaching athletes how to apply the CrossFit concepts, movements and intensity to maximize their potential to excel on the football field (or really any environment that requires speed, power, agility and strength). The certification covers areas typically left alone by CrossFit certifications, such as sprinting, change of direction and agility drills and specific drills for developing explosive power.
WTF? Better than the Level 1 PVC and medicine ball tutorials? I'm not just surprised, I'm shocked. That this might be the best certification available to coaches and athletes should surprise nobody.
See the list on the link. It would appear only Welbourn has any experience with, uh, football. couch is not listed.Let’s look at the coaches who put this thing together:
Now he's just getting blasphemous!!! Everyone knows who the best & original @Fer is, the guy who tried out all the super-secret-intense workouts that can't be shared with the general @Fing public!Kelly Starrett - Perhaps the best CrossFit coach I have ever met.

Thud, you need not worry on that topic.

Re: The couch thread
Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch?
Some of the attention was good, but a lot of @F higher ups weren't pleased. So the program was tweaked, given a @F name, and now exists in various forms over there, including @F strength (fucked up rep schemes and no speed movements) and @F football (squirrely OLY programming).
There is plenty of irony here to go around. The idea that @F is open source is bullshit. Several people, including Rip, claimed that stronger athletes adapted to @F more quickly. Lynne even put it in the FAQ. That got a big rash of shit from the metcon fags and black box mystics. The hybrid program was done to show that increasing strength and power, while doing sensible, infrequent metcons increases GPP just as well as all the bullshit (but without the injuries and muscle waste that goes along with @F). The programming wasn't revolutionary, but the fact that Grimes posted good numbers in metcons and the named WODs--while doing less than 20 minutes a week--got some attention.Sword wrote:I remember reading over Gant's hybrid program (and now the strength bias program) and thinking that it didn't really even seem like couchfit anymore in the fact that workouts were planned out ahead of time and had a routine of sorts involved.
The ironic thing is that the idiots over there act like making a program where you hit the basics hard and heavy with a focus on hitting PRs as often as possible is something new and innovative. The more people over there push to get stronger and more athletic, the more they are realizing they just need to get back to the basics and work their asses off.

I don't think that's the case. He rarely posts over there, and when he does it's something like yesterday. IIRC, he has said that he stays out of the public pissing matches because he doesn't want to cause trouble for Rip (where he trains). I don't know. He posts at performance menu. Ask him.Thud wrote:How come Gant's not posting here? I know he reads IGx. Is he so afraid of losing his posting rights on CF?
Re: The couch thread
Like I said, the more Cultfit "evolves," the less it resembles anything remotely like the original, Couch-designed system, and the more it looks like any other viable training system (e.g., strength training + GPP + sport specific training). Thus proving that Couch knows a lot about marketing/cultism but nothing about effective training.
Anyone still doing the mainpage WOD is a clueless retard.

Now look. I've eaten a pice of pie.
When we spin the pie again, the area cut out of the volume of the sphere equals fitness.

Hear more? See more. Look at this lean athtlete here the strength and speed of an elite athlete, prison tats, and still looks very feminine. That is the lean and athletic body that men want.Re: Does that CrossFit make women big?

I really have a hard time believing that CrossFit is making women that much bigger. Are these women super skinny to begin with?
Camille mentioned Jodi Bainbridge who deadlifted over 300 at a bodyweight of what, 105? She is not big!
Maybe genetics plays a large role in how "big" a woman gets. I don't know, I've been doing CF for 4 years and have seen a lot of women go from deconditioned to good or great shape. "Big" is not a word I would use to describe any of them. Curious to hear more.

Re: The couch thread
So, I'm out on a rigging job and one of the younger guys tells me he just started working out.
He goes to this place on their "free" day and really likes it.
He has watched me do some training in the warehouse and is always asking questions.
Irony, of course this place is X-fit. I busted out laughing. Told him to tell the owner that he works for Gary John. Filled him in with the whole Glasshole story.
Then, I also told him it was a good choice. He has no fitness background, tons of ink and just trying to get in shape. That is the x-fit sweet spot. All the rest is just marketing bullshit.

Yeah, they had him doing box jumps, right off. My brother and I love box jumps, but don't do them or let the young-uns do them. Too many injuries.

Re: The couch thread
I was in Utah with Dan last week.
Says the first thing a strength coach needs to do:
Do No Harm
He coached the Utah Jazz a bunch of years ago. So to drive home the point, you hurt LeBron James, you are done. I chuckle at all the guys who read the various fitness sites and put the 9 year olds on a program that would cripple an olympian.
Funny, Dan was talking about all these places that you pay a $1,000 a month to get your kid to improve their verticle. So after 6 months if goes from 18 inches to 22. From sucky sucks to plain sucks.

Re: The couch thread
Bottom line, a training protocol isn't validated until it's proven in competition. As far as I know, there aren't any remarkable athletes who train in CrossFit. Case closed. Either produce or STFU.

Re: The couch thread
imagine Lebron taking the court with his hands all wrapped up from too much kipping and 115" power cleans.
Sure, in 3 years they could break him down; but that's about it, there'd be no up.

Even better, imagine him sitting on the sidelines of a game with his neck casted up. Because remember, if falling off the rings and breaking your neck sounds foreign to you, you're not cut out to be a CrossFitter!Thud wrote:imagine Lebron taking the court with his hands all wrapped up from too much kipping and 115" power cleans.
