Documentary - The Great Happiness Space

Post by Ronald RayGun »

Just finished this fascinating doc about the strange Japanese subculture of 'host boy clubs'. Host boys are, for all intents and purposes, male geishas. They say they're in the business of selling dreams to women. Their goal is make their customers fall in love with them, and in doing so create situations that make women want to spend money. They use the term "financial worship". The sad and intriguing thing about it is that most of their customers are lonely and regretful strippers or prostitutes. Many of whom profess to have chosen their profession in order to support their frequent and expensive trips to host bars. It's an incredibly interesting game to watch unfold.
