Re: The couch thread
I talked with Pavel last night about this exact point: the quality of the movement goes right to hell so fast...and, more important, at what cost? I'm writing a short little piece on this now about my worries. It's not so much the injuries as injuries happen in sport, but about the nervous system trashing and the long term performance issues.
If I do five "good" pushups and you do nine in the same amount of time, what does it mean? If I then ramp up to go faster, am I going to throw the discus farther or drop my time in the 400? That is the issue for me...

The only good thing is the Jeff Martone and Tony Blauer clips. We joke about the "hot" women, but the worse looking chick on boobster.net is ten thousand times better than anyone at Crossfit. It's like working construction with one chunky women on the job. You are the new guy, and an old timer walks up to you and says, "That girl right there is a "3" now,... by the end of the day,.. she'll be a "10" ".
There is a good Parkour Basics vid too. I have to come clean.

There's some decent jumprope stuff, but it's not like there's really that much to learn.TomFurman wrote:The only good thing is the Jeff Martone and Tony Blauer clips. This hatred that I feel can't be healthy.
The best thing to ever come out of X-fit was X-fit live mp3 interviews.
Lots of great info from the likes of Dan John, Robb Wolf, Jesse Woody, Mike Burgener, Roger Harrell, and Mark Rippetoe.
Here's a great point on timed training and why it shouldn't dominate your training program at Mountain Athlete.
http://www.mtnathlete.com/id88.html
How has this guy not been declared a traitor to X-fit and excommunicated?
He addresses loss of form, the fallacy of fitness as sport, and the fact that being a great gym athlete may not help in real sport.
He also echoes my current training philosophy of approaching lifting as practice. I've been using sub maximal weights and working on getting in more work to improve my form, efficiency and I know it really shouldn't work but my max effort lifts are consistently going up.
I know I'm a borderline ass kisser when it comes to Dan John but I always liked his quote about using a training methodology by track and field athletes. And I'm paraphrasing but it was something along the lines of "they will try a training methodology and if they run faster, jump higher, or throw farther then it works but if it doesn't improve on measurable performance then it's no longer used."

Re: The couch thread
I just watched the vid. She's just fine. Some of you phags just need to get over the fact that she's stronger than you and drop all the "she has dick" bullshit. Her form is awful but that's par for the course at CF. I'm envious that she and I are the same age and my body won't let me get away with half that stuff. The again she most likely didn't abuse her body the way I did and/or has great genes. Some people just don't seem to get hurt but I believe that sooner or later a lot of sloppy moves like this will catch up to anyone.

C'mon Shaf. You missed those dimes. It's 155 also known as "world class".Shaf wrote:The caption "Will catches a heavy clean"

Re: The couch thread
Yeah, he may have some 5s or 10s on there so it might be 145 or 155, but IMO a coach who says form is paramount should not post a pic with that kind of form.135 isn't heavy.

I missed those bad dawg 10s.
Is it bad form if I cheat curl that?
Overall, I like the mtnathlete stuff, but talking about garbage movements has gotten me on a training economy track
Garbage movements. Filler. Crap.

Once again I can't really indentify but I'm told that you're suppossed to feel your feelings and shit like that. The Zen of hatred is extremely underrated.Jim Glover wrote:This hatred that I feel can't be healthy.

Valid question. All I know is, if I'm repping or maxing on cleans, I want a shirt between me and the bar.Shaf wrote:Plus, how many of you bad ass fuckers whip off your shirts while training?

That's the reason I would take mine off. It'd be most awesome at a @f cert.
I'd look like fucking Master Blaster, all pale and jiggly, with a little bit of muscley, prancing around the fucking thunderdome screaming "FREEEDOOOOOOM!" with 2 full inches of asscrack showing, with the asscrack afro sticking out the top.

Seems to me doing "American Swings" with 32kg will also wreak havoc on the shoulders.Rant wrote:I wouldn't be surprised and if she isn't she will be if she keeps this shit up.Shaf wrote:Rant, me boyo, I think Eva's pretty beat up herself, especially in the knees.
Yes, she is doing things I can't do and will likely never do, but I'll probably never get a concussion from fatiguing my shoulders doing handstand push ups. Note her bonk on round three.
Funny.
Side note: I met Eva in person. Really nice. This was before her hardcore Zone adoption and transformation losing all "softness." As a matter of fact, I had her, Annie Sakimoto and that Nicole all practicing Oly lifts right in front of me.
Hard to keep the cleans, "clean" whilst perusing the ass in front of me.

That is truly an awesome visual. You would, of course, need to strap a dwarf on your back for the full effect though.Shaf wrote: I'd look like fucking Master Blaster, all pale and jiggly, with a little bit of muscley, prancing around the fucking thunderdome screaming "FREEEDOOOOOOM!" with 2 full inches of asscrack showing, with the asscrack afro sticking out the top.
