Fedor: The Fighting System of the King of MMA

Post by Bram »

I looked through a copy for about an hour down at the local mega-bookstore.

Though the original ad copy promised cardio, strength training, and a more lengthy biography, the book is dedicated solely to the technical aspect of his fighting style, along with a short, 2 page, biography.

Sections are broken down into:

Striking
Evading Striking
Clinch Work
Takedowns
Ground Work from Top
Ground Work from Bottom

He goes over his methodology of striking with the turned over hand, why he avoids the knee on the ground takedown approach as well as a number of submissions, escapes, strikes and defenses that are recognizable from his past fights.

The Victory Belt style, the company which published this book, is a bit dry but the descriptions are good and for the most part thorough with plenty of pictures.

Most of the information and techniques in the book are fairly simple, but if you watch Fedor fight he doesn't do tricky things he just does them very well.

The biography at the beginning is interesting and a good read.

I'd give it an 8 or 8.5 out of 10.
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit!
