I bought a new one a few weeks ago, and it's a great car. The engine is peppy, the steering is tight, the inside is well engineered (other than the seat, which requires a head-forward posture), the sound system is nice, it's quiet on the expressway, the trunk is a good size, and it's very nice looking (black with black interior).

Ford makes a same-category car, the Fusion, but it's aimed at women and the elderly.

I sat in the latest generation at a car show awhile back and was impressed. Seemed like a Camary killer and I think only the Chevy name holds it back.
