Bomb by Steve Sheinkin

Post by Bram »

This is a young adult book about the quest to develop the atomic bomb between Germany and America, and the U.S.S.R.'s attempt to steal the information.

It does a great job of conveying the personalities of the main characters like Robert Oppenheimer (the head U.S. scientist in charge of the bomb), as well as some interesting stories of war-time espionage and some of the details of the bomb making.

I felt the last third got bogged down a bit and I was just hoping it would end, so I could move on to reading something else.

8/10

"If we are all going to be destroyed by the atomic bomb, let it find us doing sensible and human things—working, listening to music, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts—not huddled together like frightened sheep." — CS Lewis
