There's the not so trifling matter that the justice system gets it wrong. A lot. Putting an innocent man to death is a helluva thing, doing it in a way that causes excessive suffering is a harder thing to swallow.

They had due process and neither firing squad nor hangman's noose are unusual or cruel in the context of punishing a brutal rapist and murderer.

This is why I don't think governments should be in the execution business.

Some people should die. That's just unconscious knowledge.

Everyone dies eventually, Herr Fatty.

Let me get this straight: if a government can't do something with 100% success rate, it shouldn't do it at all? Is that what you're saying? We might as well get out of the law enforcement business altogether, along with the defense, education, sanitation, infrastructure, and environmental quality sectors as well. Right?

The vast majority of people who get executed have it coming. I am all for improving the justice system and addressing inequities. That's just being real and I am fully aware that most police are bums. But neither do I shrink from the reality that some people need killing. People like Lockett.

No one suggested any such thing.

Plenty of people warrant killing, how we choose to do it and to whom in the context of a pretty fucked up system is a subject for reasonable debate.

It's tough to disagree with any of this.

The best statistical guess I've heard is that about 4% of all people on death row are innocent of the crime they are convicted of. So..if you're talking winning season, or GPA, 96% is pretty solid. If you're in the 4%, that's horrific on a scale none of us here can fully imagine.

No rational person can assert that we shouldn't be able to use deadly force in immediate defense of our lives or in ultimate protection of the state. But at the rate we are getting it really wrong in the criminal justice system, I believe we need to fix some shit before we can claim to be responsible enough to mete out the final solution.

Rear naked choke until brain death seems a good way to gently get rid of society's scumbags. A cheap, fast and humane solution.
You ever seen a cycling plumber who wrestles with small calves, forearms and neck? Didn't think so.

Lies. Damn Lies. Statistics and all that. At least these guys took a reasonable swipe at it.

Yes but some people need that eventuality moved up.
