Video Knowledges

Post by TomFurman »

I'm deadly naive when it comes to video. Some questions here.
1. Downloading instructional videos. What's the simplest method to burn to dvd?
2. Is it possible to burn Youtube to dvd?

I mean, no reason to ever do this previously but the number of instructional downloads is increasing versus dvds. I do like a hard copy on my shelf.

With all your friends in Florida's black-on-white porn industry, and you don't have an acquaintance who is an audio-visual whiz?

Tom, not sure what OS you've got, but in Windows 8, you just use the media player, I think.

It has a burn option in the player. Either burn to a data CD or DVD.

From YouTube.... there are some YouTube downloading programs out there, but I don't know how well they work. Chrome used to have a couple of extensions but I think they were disabled.

If you can download the video you can burn it the same way.

Thanks. Lots of martial arts stuff and I'm about to purchase a big chunk of material.

RealPlayer had a thing that let you download from Flash from YouTube etc., but I don't know if it still does. If you run Linux, there is a trick that isn't too hard but it takes a little dicking around to figure out. That might also work for MacOS. It is a little on the geek side.

Once you save the file as an FLV, there are programs that will convert it to other formats, or burn it directly to a DVD.

If you want the DVD to play in regular DVD players, it's not as simple as just copying the file to DVD, but there is free software to burn video to DVDs. I think some will even accept a .flv file, so you don't have to do that conversion.

If you want to copy protect the file, so that it can't be copied by someone unless they have access to Google, that adds another wrinkle, you need software that will do the encryption, I am not sure if that is readily available.
But when I stand in front of the mirror and really look, I wonder: What the fuck happened here? Jesus Christ. What a beating!

That's right, ccrow. A DVD you create on your computer may not work (I guess won't?) with a regular DVD player.

I had a program on my old computer to create DVDs that would play in a regular player.

Iirc, it was cheap and pretty straightforward. Should be able to find one easy through Google.

I want to say the one I used was Aimersoft. Looks like it's $40 now. I put the Foundation Training vids onto a DVD.

I think Handbrake will do stuff like this, but I've only used it to convert MKV files to something with a smaller file size.

Hadn't thought of that. If it works, it's definitely better to go free than cheap.

So, you used something some time ago though can't remember what it was or where to find it and suggest that he use google to search for...something?
