Southpaw

Post by Beer Jew »

Overall as a movie, this was outstanding. I don't remember the last time I was so rivetted during a film. If you break it down into it's component parts, it was cliched as hell -

The relationship between the main dude and his wife. Very cliched.

Getting goaded into fighting by threatening to sleep with his wife.

His wife getting shot during the ensuing fight.

The coach who doesn't train pro-fighters. The coach who drinks alone.

Full of cliches, but outstanding nonetheless.

Imbeciles are easily riveted, I believe.

I pretty much agree with the original post. Good movie but very cliched. About the only one it missed was having the crying daughter run down to the ring in the last round of the last fight to give him extra inspiration.
