Are we headed for a solar waste crisis?
We found:

Solar panels create 300 times more toxic waste per unit of energy than do nuclear power plants.

If solar and nuclear produce the same amount of electricity over the next 25 years that nuclear produced in 2016, and the wastes are stacked on football fields, the nuclear waste would reach the height of the Leaning Tower of Pisa (52 meters), while the solar waste would reach the height of two Mt. Everests (16 km).

In countries like China, India, and Ghana, communities living near e-waste dumps often burn the waste in order to salvage the valuable copper wires for resale. Since this process requires burning off the plastic, the resulting smoke contains toxic fumes that are carcinogenic and teratogenic (birth defect-causing) when inhaled.

Measured, cautious, non-alarmist take on the subject in NYMag:

and here's the nasa graph.

this is not the first short-term decline in sea level rise. based on recent sea levels, it seems premature to draw conclusions that warming has ended.

Some might see alarming climate change while others, like myself, see a scary chart that doesn't say much and looks like propaganda - especially since James Hansen is involved.

The baseline temps were symmetrically perfect while today's temps appear dangerously out of whack. There's no info on the X & Y axes or why 1951-1980 was selected as the baseline. Makes me suspicious that this is more about promoting a point of view than meaningful science.

Maybe it was too damn cold between 1951 & 1980.

maybe.

but seems to me you've got an awful lot of things to explain away--temps, sea level, ocean acidification, glaciers melting, artic ice thinning, earlier springs, plants migrating north and to higher elevations. what am i missing?

plus you've got a known mechanism for heating the planet--co2--and a known increase in the amount of co2 in the atmosphere.

but hey, oj was not guilty. so who knows.

mock the threat, if that comforts you, but ancient microbes are not impressed:
Permafrost is the place to preserve bacteria and viruses for hundreds of thousands — if not a million — years, explains Jean-Michel Claverie, a genomics researcher who studies ancient viruses and bacteria. “It is dark, it is cold, and it is also without oxygen. … There is no [ultraviolet] light.” All the bacteria need is a thaw to wake back up.
it's fact that permafrost is melting.

it's also fact that disease-carrying mosquitoes are moving north.

humankind will be caught in a pincer movement of ancient diseases invading from the north and exotic diseases pushing up from the south.

your kids and grandkids are doubly fucked. you can pray for forgiveness for ignoring the threat, but there is no god to hear your pleas.

I would take it seriously if there was a grain of evidence behind the fantasies of these "scientists" fighting for their moment of fame and a bit of cash. Any instances where a deadly virus or bacteria has been isolated from the permafrost? Anything that has been capable of killing a lab rat?

I used to be amused by the catastrophic predictions of the "science". Now I am amused by those who keep believing the predictions of this kind in spite of the fact that the vast majority of these predictions have not come true.

And yeah, the disease-carrying mosquitoes are moving North... While the number of deaths from malaria declined by 48% from 2000 to 2015. Definitely the cause for panic. From the horse's mouth: http://www.who.int/gho/malaria/epidemic/deaths/en/ See? That's what you call a fact.

Research that doesn't make headlines:

New study shows Arctic sea ice extent ~6000 years ago was much less than today
This is interesting, somehow the Earth managed to reduce a good portion of the Arctic Ice Cap during the Holocene Climate Optimum from approximately 10,000-6,000 years ago without the help of the industrial revolution, fossil fuels, or automobile emissions.

This new paper published in Quaternary Science Reviews finds Arctic sea ice extent and thickness was much less than present-day conditions and according to the authors, “Arctic Ocean sea ice proxies generally suggest a reduction in sea ice during parts of the early and middle Holocene (∼6000–10,000 years Before the Present) compared to present day conditions.” The authors show how 8 different proxy studies reveal extended periods lasting hundreds of years without perennial sea ice in the Arctic [ice-free conditions], and find solar insolation explains these changes.
In simple language, eight proxy studies show that between 10,000 and 6,000 years ago there was no ice in the Arctic during summer. Without the interference of industrial CO2 emissions.

your logic is not

what caused low ice back then isn't necessarily what is causing low ice today, especially with a proven mechanism in effect today--greenhouse gas effect of co2 and methane.

deniers pick a fact here. pick a fact there.

what explains increased temperatures, rising sea levels, more acid ocean waters, melting permafrost, reduced arctic ice, shrinking glaciers, earlier arrival of spring, expansion of disease vectors, northern migration of species habitat?

FYI, that's how science works, addressing every aspect of the theory that attempts to explain a phenomenon. Mainstream says this temperature rise is unprecedented and is caused by CO2 - the opponents say the temperatures have risen centuries ago to higher levels without the likelihood of human contribution. The evidence of low ice falls neatly in this argument: if ice has melted thousands of years ago without the help of CO2 and methane, why do you think CO2 and methane are the cause for melting now?

As to your last paragraph: it all happens because the climate is getting warmer. For the thousandth time you are confusing the arguments: it's not about either temperature is increasing, it's about what causes it, human activity or not. I am waiting for the evidence of anthropogenicity.
