Fat Cat: La Haine (Hate)

Post by lasalle »

Fat Cat-
I think you recommended City of God, which I really enjoyed. This has a similar vibe-maybe not as big in scale. Story set in the projects on the outskirts of Paris. A policeman's gun goes missing following a riot, and the story follows the gun and three friends (Jewish, Arab and Black) for the following 24 hours.

Great pace and a good amount of tension. I think you might enjoy it.

Hey thanks for the recommendation, I will check it out. Going by your description, it sounds somewhat familiar to one of Akira Kurosawa's early films, called Stray Dog. In that film a policeman has his pistol stolen by a pickpocket on a trolley, and the film follows the pistol as it is used in commission of crimes while the police officer tries to recover it.

You recommended that one before-I'm going to give it another go. And I will confess that I have never seen a Kurosawa film. I'll add that one to the list, unless you think there's a better place to start.

Seven Samurai is a good place to start with Kurosawa.

You can't simulate culture.
