The Wolverine

Post by Kazuya Mishima »

Complete and utter dogshit. Would have been better served by just sticking with the original Japan story arc by Claremont and Miller, but they went with the typical Hollywood abortion/hatchet job. It had its moments but they were brief, infrequent, and unsatisfying.

I have no doubt that they will fuck up Days of Future Past beyond all recognition, and that will be the equivalent of wiping one's ass with the Mona Lisa.

The least shitty of the shittier Wolverine/Xmen films.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

It would be really hard to be worse than either Elektra or the first Wolverine movie.

I think I walked out of the first Wolverine and went to see something else.

How hard can it be to make a good Wolverine movie???

Here...

Logan is wandering through Arizona (insert melancholy motive). Visits old mentor and his family. While Logan is out drinking, Mexican drug cartel guns down mentor and family. Logan goes into Mexico and kills a lot of cartel. Adds some superhero nonsense for the cartel.

Or screw it....basic plot of roadhouse but Logan is Patrick Swayze character. Add superhero nonense for evil. Or not. Jut remake the movie as is.

All you need is a good choreographer for the fight scenes, a few parkour like sequences, and lots of claws.

And hot women.

Wolverine and his son are among the most interesting Marvel characters. How do you screw that up?

Remake Over the Top but use Wolverine and his son. Instead of and arm wrestling road trip it can be a cross country hunt for <insert evil villian>

The problem is the expectation for an over the top summer blockbuster. (Effects, effects, and more effects.) I'm not convinced this is the way to make a Wolverine movie.

The other problem is the expectations and wants that adults who grew up with the character have versus Marvel/Disney's desire to appeal to a younger crowd.

This biggest issue though is that so far the wolverine movies have been donkey poop.

I respectfully disagree with my esteemed colleague Mr Furman.

Daken, X-23 and a bunch of other cardboard cutout would-be badasses are all lame, derivative attempts to hit the same vein of gold that Miller uncovered with his 80s Wolverine mini-series. That series made Logan explode in the brains of all us teenage comic nerds back then and Marvel's been going back to that well ever since.

Oh, look, another stone cold yet anguished killer with claws and a shady, half-remembered backstory. Boooring.

Fuck.

This review on Bullshido alleges that the biggest failing of the movie is that (SPOILER ALERT) Logan doesn't tear through hundreds of ninjas at once.

Daken's sexual ambiguity and total narcissism would make for a stinky, dark, character.
One disappointment from Marvel is they started morphing Ben Grimm into a purple hued humanoid and haven't taken that story anywhere.

Complete utter dog shit of a movie.

Watchman pretty much followed the series = damn good movie
300 pretty much followed the graphic novel = damn good movie
Sin City pretty much followed the graphic novels = damn good movie

The producers of The Wolverine had some of the best sorce material (as comic book series goes) and they completely fucked the dog on this movie.

Not too fucking hard asswipes- follow the the basic orginal series plot w/ Wolverine slicing and dicing evil Hand Ninjas w/ rivers of blood and carnage.

I thought Watchmen fucking sucked. My girlfriend at the time walked out, but I was too stubborn to give up the $19 or whatever tickets were + popcorn money I'd already spent. She was doubly pissed that she had to sit in the lobby for over an hour while I stayed to finish the movie.

I didn't follow the series though, so I guess that must have been why I hated it so much. Everyone I know who followed the series all thought the movie was great.

Watchmen. To me, the movie would have come off as bizarre and incomprehensible if you weren't at least passingly familiar with the story and characters. I'm a big fan of the original comics, and I thought they did about as good a job as they could packing the story into 3 hours. The biggest thing is that they fixed the fundamental flaw of the original story...fucking alien space squid.

Watchman has grown on me over the years. Back when both Watchman and the Dark Knight returns came out; I was huge fan of The dark Knight.

I would love to see a faithful adaption of The Dark Knight Returns. They could easily get 2 Movies out of the whole series. Plus, as funny as this sounds; Bruce Willis would make a great aged Batman.

Since I brought up Batman; The Nolan Batman Movies are an excellent example of where the movie director and writers successfully used good comic book source material (Batman year one, The Dark Knight Returns & The Killing Joke) and ran way past the original source material. What the makers of the Wolverine failed miserably to accomplish, the Nolan and crew succeeded in pulling off.

I've heard good things about the The Dark Knight Returns. Only thing is that it is 2 animated movies.

I've seen them. The main issue is they did away with Batmans inner Monologue.
