Re: Stuff that works

For reference, I have always had a relatively slow heartrate with or without training.

Weekly mileage ranged from 15 to 30 average.

For June most of my weeks have been in the upper range because I wanted to run less often.

Re: Stuff that works

Thanks,

Pulse has stayed at 133 or less for the increase in speed. In fact, my legs give up before my heart and lungs and it's difficult to increase pulse much past 145.

Stuff that works

I started with the Maffetone method of running in February after I foolishly signed up for a trail half marathon without much running. My max pulse was at 133, the first 4 weeks or so it forced me to run around 11:30 miles. All tracked with a Garmin Fenix 3. Since April after the event was canceled ...

Re: Heart Rate Monitor Recommendations

I bought a Garmin Fenix 3 refurb at Amazon. I have a chest strap from an old Garmin Forerunner that syncs up. That takes care of the wonky wrist sensor.

Bonus is you can download hiking maps to your wrist and it will direct you when taking a new route in the woods.

Catch 22 on Hulu

New adaptation of the Joseph Heller book. I liked the book and the movie with Alan Arkin.

I only watched the first episode so far and it's mildly amusing enough that I'll watch the next.

Re: Sleep Paralysis...

I had it from my mid twenties until around mid forties but since then it has dropped so significantly that I can't remember the last time. I do remember the dream though, same one every time. I even knew it was coming on and couldn't stop it. Sometimes it would be several nights in a row and then st...

Re: So are we gonna talk about GoT or what?

I thought the ending was very anti climactic. Feels sort of like the last season was phoned in, but if the original author got tired of it and couldn't figure out how to end the story why would we expect more of anyone else.

Wife thinks they should spin off the Adventures of Arya.

Black Summer

New zombie series on Netflix. If you are a fan of the zombie genre it's worth a watch. If you are ex-military the portrayal of the soldiers will bother you because it seems the budget didn't allow for a knowledgeable adviser. I think it was written by the same folks that did Z Nation on Syfy but thi...

Re: Do you even lift, bro?

I've been following the programs from Rob Shaul at Mountain Tactical. He has a series for over 45 year olds. The plans are 7 wee eks long and relatively cheap. They are varied in exercise selection and contain strength and endurance stuff. I've also started playing indoor soccer once a week.

Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse

I was talked into seeing it by my teenage sons. I was pleasantly surprised. The story is great, the animation is great and the inclusion of Spiderham was genius.

It was too long and as you said overly dramatic. I feel kinda cheated that it was just a big setup for the next episode. Unless you are a gigantic fan (I'm not) skip it.

What's a Bryce Lane format? I dunno who that is or what he does. Spare me the googling. Bryce Lane’s 50/20: basically, you do fifty reps of the lift of your choosing in twenty minutes. You can do it “on the minute”, using ladders, straight sets, descending sets... it does not matter. This blog entr...

Finish last week of the 10,000 swing workout. Get my ass released by the doc to go back to work. May do the swing routine again just change up the exercises and swing the 32kg bell. Start rucking again (if doc allows) Compete in a 2 or 3 gun match before the first snow. (longer term goal than weekly)

Re: Weekly Goals Thread

Bram I flex my foot and through the range of motion several times per day. It's odd to me that bone healing doesn't swell but the ankle does. It has diminished over the last several days. The atrophy of my calf and the ankle stiffness has been worst part of the recovery. The muscles in my foot also ...

Re: Weekly Goals Thread

Started the 10000 swing routine last week while vacationing. Will continue for the 4 weeks. Upped the bell to 24kg because with my rehab polio shoe it didn't bother the healing foot. Goal is to get this limb to stop swelling and make my ankle function at least as well as it used too. The injury feel...

Re: Weekly Goals Thread

Broke the 5th metatarsal of my right foot. Called a Jones fracture. Doc installed a deck screw to pull it together because as he put it, it will be hit or miss to heal without the screw. 8 weeks with my lower leg immobilized and non weight bearing sucked. Couldn't drive either. Now with a flat rigid...

Met the goal of being a good patient with 100 percent no weight bearing on the broken surgically repaired foot. New weekly goal starting Monday is to get into a regular waterproof cast so I can sweat and go swimming (at least get into a pool) The iwalk 2.0 has been a mind saving device since it free...

Re: Weekly Goals Thread

Over use. Started as a stress fracture that I ignored. Went to see GBH and stepped on someone's foot and broke it better. Doc said it was only a matter of time if it was already fractured. Worst part is it is my right foot so no driving. Trapped with my oldest son who has his learner's permit and an...

Foot surgery done. Jones fracture repaired with a screw. Couch bound for the next few days and then no weight bearing for the next 4-6 weeks. Goal is to to heal and follow medical advice.
