Re: The couch thread
Polio vaccine became widespread in the US in the early 60s. So it's just barely possible that he would'nt have been vaccinated. But I'm dubious.

Re: Consistently missed
Though understandable, because continental European countries were much more involved in WW2. Restrict that to "the European theater" and you're at least half right. The ANZACs saw a lot of combat in the Pacific (air sea and land) and did the bulk of the ground fighting in the South West ...

Re: Consistently missed
I dunno man. Maybe it's because I lived in DC for ten years, but VE Day was always a pretty big deal. If nothing else it was the day when you'd get to see a flyover by some sweet-ass vintage P-51s.

Re: What's the IGx opinion on the deflated footballs?
New opinions? Nope, exactly the same as it was in January: meh. No problem believing that the Patriots did it. Don't really give a shit. If the NFL wants to make sure that teams don't fuck with the balls they could, you know, provide the balls... I get that the QBs like to dictate just precisely ho...

Heh, I went to college with the guy who wrote the buzzfeed article. Decent guy. worked as a volunteer paramedic through college. Didn't know he became a cop, though it doesn't surprise me.

Re: Q for the parents here, Louis CK on fatherhood
Update for the prospective parents: this morning I got back from the gym a little after 7. My wife was still sleeping but my 3-yo daughter was playing downstairs. When I walked in, she gave me a great big hug and a big, beautiful smile, and said "Daddy, I'm so happy that you're home from the gy...

Re: Q for the parents here, Louis CK on fatherhood
I can only give my experience as a father: parenthood did force me to give up some activities that I previously enjoyed or felt were important. Some of those things I miss, and some of those things turn out not to be as important as I thought they were. It's important to strike a balance between you...

Re: Lap of Love in-home euthanasia for pets
We had to put one of our dogs down today. She'd had cancer last year and had her spleen removed, but the cancer is malignant about 75% of the time, as it was here. So she started getting sick a few weeks ago and it's extremely aggressive. The short version is my wife really didn't want to take the ...
