Re: Scott Weiland RIP

Was never a fan of STP. Velvet Underground...eh, I wanted it to be GnR part 2 and it wasn't. But having struggled with addiction and skated a little too close to that edge myself, I feel a little twinge every time it takes someone out. RIP.

Re: Hey Nerds, Got A Question on SSDs

The only minimum requirement is that you have enough $$$ to buy an SSD big enough to fit your OS and your most often used programs. And do some research on brands. In theory, since SSDs don't have any moving parts, they ought to be more reliable than spinning magnetic platters. Anecdotally, I know a...

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Took me a few missions to get into this and to resist the standard FPS run and gun urges, but it's pretty damn good. Skipping all the cutscenes helps, though that's probably why I don't understand anything about the intro (nor do I care). Yeah, the hour long survival horror intro is a pain, but onc...

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I'll write more later but if you like online shooters but hate Activision, you should take a look at the Battlefield games, the most recent of which is BF 4 (ignore Battlefield Hardline, which is stupid). The focus is more on large-scale "you are a soldier in a big army" fighting than smal...

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Fallout 4 is going to be great in about two years, when I pick it up for $5 in a Steam sale, after modders have patches out all the bugs.

Shape, are you looking for online manshoots or are you looking for a good single-player game? Or both?

Thanks Kaz. I'm sure I'll buy both at some point, the only question was which one first.

Proto and Terry: You're absolutely right. From now on I'll only do very mature and grownup things. Like dicking around on the internet.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I've got some credit at Amazon and I'm fixing to buy a game new for once rather than waiting for a Steam sale. GTA V or phantom pain? Have never played a previous metal gear game but have heard this is excellent; have played all previous GTA games and enjoyed them for the world building more than th...

Running. At least for me. No other physical activity guarantees mission accomplishment for getting the system moving like running. No idea why. I've found that too- the last time I jogged regularly I made sure to take a couple laps around the block before I'd go very far from my apartment, because ...

Re: Anybody following VW's fuck up?

I was going to put it more nicely, but yes: soot emissions are distinguishable from GHG emissions. PM-10 and PM-2.5 are bad news for the local - not global - environment (soot emissions do affect the global environment but I'm trying to keep this local).

Re: Jack Donovan, Master Chim, & others screaming about masculinity

Signifiers of masculinity are culture-dependant and have changed over the years. Modes of dress, speech, whatever that seem "manly" now would have looked like bullshit to someone in revolutionary France, or ancient Akkad. Do some work and do it well; support your friends and family when th...

The slowness doesn't help. On the other hand, while I know I haven't been here as long as many of y'all, I've been paying for a few years and lurking for 2-3 years before that. There's at least one of these threads per year. Someday it'll be true, but it hasn't been yet.
