Re: Right now I'm drinking
I guess I'm one of the few people who like Beam as a go-to bourbon. Still prefer it to JD and EW as shelf stockers.
I know I've mentioned it before, but if you like a good whiskey you owe it to yourself to pick up a bottle of High West Rendezvous Rye. Small distiller in Park City Utah. A friend of mine who's a master Sommalier and works for a wine and spirit distributor hooked me up with a bottle when they first opened their doors. Been a bottle in my cabinet ever since.

I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

Drinking on the New Belgium Shift that davidc recommended. Very tasty.

Glad you like it. If anybody is planning on having some friends over to watch bowl games this is what I'd recommend serving.Mickey O'neil wrote:Drinking on the New Belgium Shift that davidc recommended. Very tasty.

Nice! I am currently boycotting DFH because I want the $17 I spent on the Pearl Jam beer back, it was fucking terrible. Seriously, every time I go to the store there's like 4 new bombers of some random crap from them and I feel like they're just cashing in on the popularity gained through their larger production beers. This post reminded me of how awesome both the 60 and 90 minute IPAs are.davidc wrote:

I'm a really big fan of beeradvocate. Sometimes they under-rate a beer, but rarely is a bad one over-rated.

Yeah, it's partly my fault for falling for the rarity hype. I've had good luck with all their basics. I can't read the actual beeradvocate reviews because they're all exactly the same but, agreed, the overall ratings are usually pretty accurate.davidc wrote:Stick with their basics.Fuzzy Dunlop wrote:Nice! In no way is Beam a mistake, but there are much heartier and robust options over the white label, if heartier is your thing. It's not like you're Shape rockin' to the Malibu and Coke Zeros when you get home from a hard day at the office.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote:I guess I'm one of the few people who like Beam as a go-to bourbon. Christmas present from an Australian friend. We opened it and had some at 9:30. Now, she and the wife are cooking sausage and bacon.

Grabbed a 4-pack of the OB Ten Fidy yesterday. Shit pours like motor oil, great beer though, thanks davidc. Got one left for this afternoon.

Glad you like it. Oh, and I understated it's alcohol content. It's 10.5 %, hence the name "Ten Fidy".Fuzzy Dunlop wrote:Damn, that Gnomegang looks cool.Dunn wrote:Had this today with Alfred Neuman.

A little something I got for Christmas:

Wow...party at shape's ass.

A little vanilla flavor, but oily.
Serves me right for taking drinking advice from Entourage. But it was clever marketing.

Re: Right now I'm drinking
I'm in Charleston, SC. Ate at a nice restaurant called Husk. It's an old home from 1879. The bar is an old brick building next door. Small, wood and brick. Very intimate. The bartender is a bourbon expert and they have something like 150 bourbons; some quite expensive but some very reasonable.
I told him that I like Basil Hayden, Woodford, and Buffalo Trace and that I wanted something in that family and in that price range and he gave me Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2012 which was barrelled in 2000. Very smooth and delightful sipping.

Sam Adams Dark Depths Baltic IPA.
I discovered that they make several specialty brews while I was in Boston. Better half got this for me while I was in Newport. Nice.

Is there anywhere you can order Sam Adams' stuff they don't distribute widely? I'd love to try some of their specialty brews that they don't sent out to distribution here.

Not that I'm aware of. I've found that "better" beer and liquor distributors tend to have some of the micro-items like this though. Look around a little, you'd be surprised what you'll find.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote:Is there anywhere you can order Sam Adams' stuff they don't distribute widely? If you can't find it then a lot of places will order it for you, especially if you are a known customer. If you can't find it up there holler at me and I will send you a care package.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote:Is there anywhere you can order Sam Adams' stuff they don't distribute widely?
