I know it's not "driving a stake in the ground," but this year's Arnold Strongman expo will give Cultfitters another chance to demonstrate their dominance, this time in the grip and forearm strength modal domain, which I'm certain they're prepared for since they are "ready for anything."
Mighty Mitts will be a new feature, featuring feats of grip strength. The events are:

Jowett Anvil: deadlift the 163 lb. anvil by its horn
Sorin’s Monster: deadlift a 500-lb. dumbbell with a 2-inch diameter handle
Inch by Inch: walk for distance with an Inch replica dumbbell in each hand
Mark Henry Bell: lift the 300-lb dumbbell with a 2.5-inch diameter handle out of its box
Gama Club: lever an 80-pound Indian Club
"Know that! & Know it deep you fucking loser!"

Check out the lightweight classes, Kraj. You can't just take the extremes and make generalizations across everyone in the sport.
Kraj wrote: Training to lift such extreme weight is both pointless and unhealthy. That's a fact.
You could say that about running fast, or throwing a football, or any sport pushed to the most elite levels. Elite athletes trade longevity to be the best. The idea that extreme specialization in any area, athletic or not, involves sacrifices is not new, nobody can have it all. It's interesting that Crossfitters are so focused on defying this fundamental fact of life. Perhaps part of the program's appeal is that it ties in with the broader message coming from our modern culture that what we want and what we can get are the same things, and if they're not it means there's something wrong with you or your life.

What the hell are you talking about, didn't you see this awesome video explaining Crossfit:

(CFags, by the way, NEVER do things because it looks cool and not necessarily because it works)

Sir, do you have a torn meniscus? Fix it with 100 air squats, fast as you can, stat.

Nobody is different. Everyone needs exactly the same thing. Exactly the same thing. Exactly the same thing. We are all the same.

I've never been to a CrossFit class either, but I still rag on them. How about you?
Charismatic megafauna wrote:the myriad of USAPL masters powerlifters i train with are far healthier becuase of powerlifiting.
And you base this on what, exactly? Other than "because I say so."
Charismatic megafauna wrote:Low to average bodyfat (these are weight class athletes, heaviest male being 185-190) , high degree of muscularity, good cardiovascular function
Are you saying these are the norm? Really?
Charismatic megafauna wrote:which may not seem like a big deal to a cake eating desk jockey like yourself
So judgemental. :goodman:
Charismatic megafauna wrote:but the three or four 60-70 year old woman powerlifiters I know put a lot of stock in it because it keep them active.
Are you saying that they've survived to 60-70 because of powerlifting? Or that they're active because powerlifting gets them out of the house? Not sure where you're going with that one. There are plenty of even older folks who could kick ass and take names without ever even picking up a barbell. Tying powerlifting to the activity level of a few seniors is dubious at best.

Bottom line, I'm not trying to be a dick, but I find it rather hypocritical that we can dish shit on CrossFit all day but when someone makes a valid argument against powerlifting, all hell breaks loose. The point of IGx is to be an open-minded community. If I wanted PL fanatics going apeshit, I'd go to T-Nation or something.

I'll make it easy to understand what I'm saying:
-Training deadlift, bench, etc. for health = GOOD
-Training deadlift, bench, etc. for max numbers = BAD

That's fact. Now, can we get back on point here? Focus!

Kraj: Don't know shit about this topic. Yeah, HW PLs tend to be on the unhealthily big size. The 181s? The 165s? Even the 220s? Different story.

In an em from Pudding....
I'll just say that you have accused us of censoring ideas, which couldn't be further from the truth
Really, then why did my posting get pulled from the boards? Why do threads get closed and removed?
The CrossFit seminars are better than they ever have been, and they keep getting better. Are there shitty trainers out there? Of course. If you think any other business model would produce better trainers, show it to me.
My first threat of disbarment from @fit from Pudding. Too bad I'm not an affiliate. I did in my email ask him to resign. Guess he got butt hurt.
I'm not going to resign nor am I going to be asked to resign. The irony here is that my job is not at all about spin, yet R*** and G*** are primarily about spin. R*** and G*** were deaffiliated for their actions since the BBS, not before. In fact, if you want a lesson in how to become deaffiliated, follow them.

You wrote that we're censoring like the USSR. What a crock of shit. We are simply not engaging in public drama. R*** and G*** have repeated refused to manage private disagreements in private, to discuss intellectual matters logically and with integrity, and to manage professionally their public relationship with the organization that is primarily responsible for all of their financial success. There is so much that you don't know, and yet you are so sure about yourself.

If you make one more post like that in the Journal, I'm going to refund your money and revoke your Journal access. Know what you know and know what you don't. Think about that before you reply

I hear that deleting posts that make you look bad and refusing to engage in honest debate makes you a bunch of censoring cocksuckers?

These people are like a magic Christmas tree that won't stop giving presents.

1) "We are simply not engaging in public drama." Except where Couch's minion disrupts one presenter physically assaults another at a public meeting.

2) "You wrote that we're censoring...What a crock of shit".........followed by........."If you make one more post like that...I'm going to revoke your Journal access."
