This is gospel truth. Most people also esteem lightly what is obtained too easily. I have to pay $300 a month for real fitness? Of course I do. That's elite. If I buy a $300 barbell and weight plate set, that's not good enough.powerlifter54 wrote: Most average folks benefit from ANY program they start. We can reverse engineer a fitness guru like this: Find a guy who works out and has ripped abs. Have him back a weird protocol. He promises rapid results by virtue of the weird protocol, and people are attracted to a new thing. "You have back fat because you have not unlocked the MAYAN BRICK THROWING system your ancestors had!" Get people moving and sweating and eating fewer processed foods and booze. Shazam! People can see their abs. Throw up a website for followers to encourage each other. Sell proprietary Mayan Bricks which are clearly the best for your followers.
Hell, sell throwing shoes and gloves and a diet journal. T-shirts. HAVE PEOPLE ACTUALLY BUILD pyramids, temples, etc. Promote these events and have people pay to enter.
OK, I started this post as a joke but I gotta eat, so if you see the Mayan Temple Fitness Program don't hate.
All this said, I have no clue how Glassman became a fitness icon.
Over time, your quickness with a cocky rejoinder must have gotten you many punches in the face.

Nothing like watching Saranwrap getting owned. =D>Quote:you totally ignored the things that counter your point and spun things the way you want them. THAT is what i was referring to when i asked you not to put words in my mouth about barry sears and robb wolf.Quote:
You disagree with Sears - that's fine, but you act as if the science of nutrition is sooooo settled that it's unprincipled to believe what Sears has to say on the issue.
Given his creds, clinical experience, and Coach's prior relationship wth Sears (going back 15 years anyway), it just happens that Coach believes he's right about weighing and measuring. Thats it. If that is somehow "divisive" it's because people got a case of the a$$ because their guy got sacked.
see, dale, you assumed, and you know what that means.
YOU CLAIM that i disagree with sears. well, i didn't say sears was wrong. not once will you find me saying he's wrong. i don't know whether he's wrong or right, dale -- all i know is that i don't feel like weighing and measuring. BUT i DO believe that his prescription works very well for lots of people -- and i have said as much to friends.
so, DALE'S FIRST CLAIM = PRESUMPTUOUS AND WRONG!
YOU CLAIM that i have some sort of stake in robb wolf. i do not. i have not attended any of his certs, purchased any of the products he endorses, etc. also, even if i WERE some sort of robb wolf acolyte, i think that would put me on the CFHQ side of things, since the information i got from robb wolf through the crossfit site and journal is ALL pro-zone!
so, DALE'S SECOND CLAIM = PRESUMPTUOUS AND WRONG!
finally, YOU CLAIM that coach is merely behind barry sears's recommendation to weigh and measure, "that's all."
well, looking back over the nutrition articles and videos available in the journal, i counted practically 90 PERCENT of the material STRONGLY supporting the zone prescription (NOT merely the suggestion to weigh and measure whichever ratios you wish to follow)! this includes a LENGTHY speech by barry sears, with no commentary, and a softball, laudatory MULTIPART series that makes sears out to be the pre-eminent source on all things nutrition. (dale, i've spent a decade in journalism and know a pro-subject piece when i see one! pretending that the 8-part series released of late is objective will only damage your credibility!)
NO OTHER DIET is given anywhere near the amount of discussion. in fact, NO OTHER DIET is recommended, and NO OTHER AUTHOR OF ANY OTHER DIET is given face time. not one! yet you think that there is no bias reflected in the coverage of nutrition by crossfit? that's just ridiculous.
no, dale, my comments on the coverage that sears gets in the journal -- which are directed entirely at its disproportionality and not at all about its content -- are SPOT ON.
so, DALE'S THIRD CLAIM = WRONG!
as for your snide remark, dale, i'm not going to make cheap insults about your reading comprehension skills. i recognize that you've accomplished quite a lot. i'm really sorry that you, as a CFHQ employee, feel attacked as part of the whole black box summit thing, but 1) you're letting your emotions get the better of you, and 2) my thread wasn't about that anyway.
you know, it really wasn't necessary to resurrect this; neither was it necessary to react like a jerk, in the way you responded. i've seen you respond civilly to people many times before, so i have to chalk this childish behavior up to the bbs stuff. in any case, please heed camille's exhortation, above, to keep this civil, if you choose to respond.
thanks,

Where @fit goes off the deep end (and garners all the hate from those in the know) is when they tell these same people that they're in the elite of the elite athletes on the planet just because they work out really hard at a bunch of random shit. If couch wasn't spewing bullshit about @f'ers being the equal or better of Olympic and world champion caliber athletes who train their entire lives with a dedicated purpose of improving in their sport, I don't think he'd even be on the radar.
The fact that they don't have a single example of their program producing a competetive athlete at anything other than their own bullshit doesn't deter them from making the claims. And hence the hate.

About 1000 hits a day over past few days...
Just want to send a shout out to all our favorite @fitters!
In a minute, i am gonna ask you all to make a decision, but for now, how is that lifestyle working for you?
Everybody is your friend when you PR or get a new tat or hook up with a new friend.
But even in your kickin new bod the aches and pains are piling up. You have this uneasy feeling this crap isn't right. Your "supplements" help but the tendinitis and morning wake up hell is getting harder and harder. You have lost most of your old friends and work is looking at you funny now as almost every weekend you leave early head off to another cert. That 401k was taking a beating before just with the economy and now you can't remember how many $1000 withdrawls you have made. Ayn Rand never covered the ramifications of Roth early withdrawls! Your spiraling out of control and you have known a while it is all gonna come tumbling down at CFHQ. The censorship, the "inner Circle", heros go from SME's to idiots in a weekend, huge sums of money with no accounting, the promiscuity, the boozing, the hard truth that your fitness guru looks like a cross of Mickey Rooney and Jaba the Hut, the workouts that you have questioned internally for quite a while.
We offer a better way. You can't pay for it or earn it on your own. All you have to do is sign up for Irongarm and start posting workouts. Yeah, in the beginning you will get abused a bit, but it is just the internet and you have puked more than a young hollywood star on a three day bender. If you can handle pissing out your liver you can handle some jibes from the ether. You can still do pullups and cleans and row the rower and swing the KB over your head and do ME back squats with 265. If you need to post pix you still can. Andro Friday is sort of an ice breaker.
Yes you will lose some buddies, but they will join you soon enough.
So touch the screen and say these words, "I know what is right for my training, and what I don't know the IGx folks can point out to me. I am tired of the pain and the loss of hand meat".
So now go to the sign up screen and do it. Make the decision today. There is no better time.
You can be free of the pain and the false expectations and actually get advice from real PLers, Strongmen, Yogis, runners, HardStyle and OTW KBs, Oly coaches, MMa types, and Rant.
We're waiting and we will be here for you.

The pain issue is a real dirty little secret.
I did a workout today, basically big kipping pullups, that really hurt my elbows, I still can't straighten out my arms. Haven't done that in a long time and I won't do that anymore. Never had that problem doing strict pullups, even with big weights. I could do it again, but I won't. The Infedels are so addicted to the circle jerk that they don't dare say - hey, I know that this is eventually going to ruin my elbows and shoulders. If you raise that on the forum some 25 year old CF level 2 either says you're doing it wrong, you're not scaling or you're a pussy. They'll even say it after you beat them on a workout and then question whether that workout was such a good idea, like I have. They'll even say it to a SEAL who says high rep, pre- exhausted DLs are stupid.
One thing about Pavel's core approach - slow progression, circling back, strict form, rest, same but different - it's built to last. Pavel has done and can still actually do the things he writes about, so he has an athlete's respect for injury and longevity.
CFers, come out and play.

Re: The couch thread
I guess this guy's name will be turning blue soon. (From pg 3 of T200's link.)Hi-rep Oly lifts. Boyle isn't the only one who thinks they're ill-advised. It is worth reminding the readership that Boyle does train professional athletes.
Calling Caviston an "endurance" coach seems overly limiting. But that's not the point. The training is designed to the performance requirements. Obviously the trainer needn't be the performer himself. Otherwise Glassman couldn't coach anyone, having never performed.
As for Glassman's data, where is it? Caviston said, show me the proof and I'll rethink my position.

Enjoy!
Then a noob like Daniel Freedman writes:
You ill advised fucking Canuck. Shut the fuck up and let the big boys talk.Mr. Caviston's critique is neither thoughtful nor important.
He says he has studied CrossFit extensively and has sat in on seminars. Yet he writes that CrossFit prescribes the same weights for everyone. He also believes that leg curls and bicep curls are useful.
Given those statements, sensible people will know how much importance to attach to Mr. Caviston's other views: none.
What role CrossFit can play in BUD/s prep and training is an interesting topic. But Mr. Caviston's critique does nothing to advance the dialogue.
Tom Rawls hits the nail on the head:
What? Couch using his cultish character assassination techniques? Say it ain't fucking so!Caviston is actually developing programming for SEALS, and doing it successfully, you might just want to think about what he says.
He is hardly alone in his view that workouts using high-rep Oly lifts are ill-advised.
And those who perform at the top in true endurance activities certainly do not rely on x-fit, which doesn't prepare one for true endurance events.
As for Glassman's ambush of Caviston, cited by Moody, that's an egregious piece of character assassination, with no information provided whatsoever. If Moody actually has any evidence that Caviston is deficient in his performance, he should provide it. Or he should admit he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about. And apologize for repeating the earlier cheap shot.
Then later on:
Well no shit, because Couch doesn't train anybody. He shows up for pictures drunk, says stupid shit at seminars that will get him sued, and makes gin money from selling bullshit certs that are useless outside of XF.Calling Caviston an "endurance" coach seems overly limiting. But that's not the point. The training is designed to the performance requirements. Obviously the trainer needn't be the performer himself. Otherwise Glassman couldn't coach anyone, having never performed.
Rawls:
Europa:If I am reading you correctly, you have data re the effectiveness of high-rep Oly lifts. I'd be interested to learn more about the data/study.
Holy fuck Europa is a cock-gobbling fucktwad. God damn it I'm so tired of these fucking wanna-be operators and their elite fucking attitude. They don't know shit and need to shut the fuck up.I don't have a study...we're all (well, probably not you since you don't seem to be a CrossFitter, oddly enough) part of the study that is constantly ongoing. But it should be obvious to everyone involved at this point that very few things can match the stimulus provided by high-rep o-lifts. However, it's important to note that Caviston doesn't question the effectiveness, only the safety.

How did Mike Caviston get involved in all this Navy Seal shit? At first I thought the name might just be a coincidence, but after reading his dress-down of @fit, I figured it had to be the same Caviston of Wolverine fame.T200 wrote:Man, here's the @Fit thread on the new Caviston comments.
