Founders is pretty good. Bells is, IMO, better, and is another Michigan brewery.

I'm telling you fuckers that I am no longer taking your word for this shit. If you talk about a good IPA, Double IPA, American IPA, or whatever, and it's garbage, I'm letting you know you are full of shit.

Has the Longhammer, IPA been mentioned? I think it's pretty fucking good...a bit boozy almost, but that might explain why I think it's good.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:I'm telling you fuckers that I am no longer taking your word for this shit. Re: Beer!!!
I had a liter of Gulder this evening. I can say unequivocally that it is the best Ghananese beer I have had to date.

Re: Beer!!!
Anyone here dig mixed beers (e.g., black and tans)? There's a pub here in town that has about a dozen on the menu. They make a Sweetwater 420 (pale ale) and Guinness blend that's muy yummy, called Bongwater. They also have a Miller High Life and Sprite shandy that's good stuff as well.

Re: Beer!!!
I'm not a beer snob, I can only tell you what I like. I've tried the Bell's recently and think that Longhammer smokes it. Surly Furious is an IPA I've been able to enjoy recently on tap and IMO, that is the best IPA I've ever tried.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:Longhammer IPA sucks.

That grapefruit taste from the 420 is different-- you either like it or you don't-- not a bad summer beer at all.stosh wrote:Anyone here dig mixed beers (e.g., black and tans)? Re: Beer!!!
Tried a couple of new Imerial IPA's this weekend.
Oskar Blue's Gubna was just slightly better than average for me. Fairly pale and slightly cloudy. A good bit of hops, but they were very high on the citrus. Almost to the point of being overpowering as soon as you got the glass near your nose. I'm a huge hop head so I din't mind it, but it lacked some depth.
Southern Tier Unearthly was one of the best IPAs I've had since leaving Bellingham. Damn near as good as Boundary Bay's IPA. Darker in color and much more complex in flavor. Still a shit ton of hops, but they're a lot deeper than the Oscar Blue. Think pine tree rather than grapefruit. This is the first Southern Tier beer I've tried. Definately recomend picking one up if you can get it.

Damn, I might have to try that-- I haven't been impressed with anything from Widmer for years.johno wrote:

Bells Two Hearted Ale >>> Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA.
Head to head comparison this weekend. The Dogfish head was still good though.

Re: Beer!!!
The Dogfish Head 60 is weak sauce. If you can get the 120 then you've got yourself a fine American IPA.

Re: Beer!!!
As I happend to be enjoying a pint right now;
St Austell's Tribute; fairly run of the mill english ale. Malty, beery; could be a decent session beer. It claims to 'capture the essence of cornwall'. This figures, as it is certainly pleasant enough but when compared to it's north yorkshire counterparts it seems very pedestrian. If any of you from over the pond are exploring british beers I'd probably suggest looking at the Theakstons, Black Sheep and Adnams breweries. They are my pick of the bigger real ale breweries.
If anyone ever visits the NW England however, I recommend picking up anything by the Dunham Massey micro-brewery. I am partial to their winter-warmer, (a strong 7% ish dark ale) and their porter. To be honest though, their range is increasing and yet I still haven't had a bad 'un. They do an IPA which the wife thinks is awesome. I tend to mistakenly drink it after one of the aforementioned darker, stronger ales so it tastes a bit flimsy to me in comparison. It's based about half a mile up the road, and is fast becoming my favourite brewer.
Off to get another....

For sure. Shaf is doing a lot of kookball work, to include dabbling in the most dangerous form of the virus: OTW'ish instruction. This is clearly the trigger in his uppity and snippety remark that had no substance. Which is fine at this stage, it is our job to be there for him and to let him work through his problems manifested by kookballs. The Unflushable DEATHTURD wrote:IMO, it's one of the better nationally available IPAs.High Velocity Lie-Nap! wrote:Has the Longhammer, IPA been mentioned? Re: Beer!!!
Longhammer has nothing on a 6 pack of a good IPA that costs like $2 more.
I will say its' better than the Hop Ness Monster though.

Re: Beer!!!
I bought a six of Magic Hat #9 as I think both Shetler or Ed Zak praised it and that is one fine ale.
Re: Beer!!!
If you live in the mid-Atlantic, keep an eye out for this brewery and their barrel aged beers, I had the scotch ale mentioned below and it was amazing:
We're getting geared up for Baltimore Beer Week the second week in October, and the cornerstone of that week for us will be the release of Menagerie #3. Its a real big, rich scotch ale, 2/3 of which have been in bourbon barrels for 6 months. We are really looking forward to the week and this beer so we hope to see you all out there- we've got events at Max's, Alonso's, Chesapeake Real Ale Festival and Phillips Harbor Place as well as some other events still being finalized. Our facebook page is the place to stay current with our events, we just recently updated them so check 'em out.
